Official: Trulli leaves Renault
Source: Sporting Life

Well that answers one quetion, but opens and leaves the other question unanswered, for now.[/quote] And to clarify for those that like to have conspiracy theories about him not trying against his new team or that he should go now: Quote:
It doesn't need me to say this, but it looks like Toyota and Ralf said yesterday in his press conference: Quote:

Yes, looks like a clear cut case of a move to Toyota.
I hope Olivier Panis can find suitable employment worthy of his talent next year, whether in F1 or other racing. |

It's strange that he's left at this point, havign had such a good season, but I suspect either Flavio's playing game sot make Alonso look better, or Toyota have offered him a huge sum of money and promises of a miracle leap forward.

Jarno has always had a good relationship with Mike Gascoyne at Jordan and Renault.
They believe in each other - and that sort of partnership gets results. |

And they say money doesnt mean much when your already whealthy! I suppose Trulli had no choice but to leave renault so i cant blame him, but RS no doubt likes the cash. It may well take Toyota several more years to be consistantly on the podium. Id have a Williams or Renault drive in 2005 before Toyota.
Theres a knock at the door now, maybe its Frank or Flavio |

It will be interesting to see which of the two 2005 Toyota drivers comes out on top. I think that rs believes that he will be the No.1, but I reckon that Jarno will easily have his measure, and most likely will show him that he really is not as good as WW believes.

Evenly matched, I expect.
The crucial thing is how well they work together to drive the team forward. |

Not at all! Jarno will be with Gascoyne and the guys that he brings over from Renault, and rs will go all sulky.

If he wasn't leaving before tonights race he sure would be now
Flav was not remotely amused when he let webber through!! (on a side note i hope flav is not balming truli for getting passed by sato...he could have drove sato of the track of course but only michael does that.) |

Regarding leaving Renault, Jarno is not a driver that would necessarily be influenced by the offer of mega money. Basically, Jarno has had enough of Flavio. |

Maybe Flavio is over-rated?
Since Michael Scumacher left his employ, his teams have won three Grands Prix. |

Jarno has been arguing with Flavio and doesn't like the huge cut Briatore takes of his salary.
If I was an F1 driver I'd want a manager whose priorities for me were less political and more me-centric. That wouldn't be selfish, would it? |

It's obvious that the relationship between Trulli and Flavio has deteriorated beyond repair if Trulli is taking the gamble of announcing he's leaving Renault before having another seat publicly lined up.
If Trulli has gone to Toyota, he's gone because a) Gascoyne is there, b) he's been offered a tidy sum of money and c) Toyota have promised a massive improvement. |

If i was in Trulli's position Toyota would have to promise me a huge improvement on what they've shown in F1 so far as it appears they're still quite some way from being a contender.

Their answer to you would be Mike Gascoigne.
They're having no problems with the engine - it's up there with the best of them. Their problems are the team's lack of experience and a solid design department. It's ambitious of Toyota to be doing what they're doing...Ferrari have taken 50 years to get where they are! Last edited by Logrence; 25 Jul 2004 at 16:25. |

IIRC, didn't someone on the ITV telecast mentioned that Trulli was also speaking with BAR about next year?

Not that I heard, anyway.
I think Trulli's 99.9% sure at Toyota. |

Indeed they will.
Ferrari, McLaren and Renault will be the only other teams who can make that claim. |

A link to BAR was mentioned, I think by Brundle before the race, but I think Toyota's more likely. They've got money to attract a top driver, probably don't want to keep Panis or da Matta, and have Gascoyne to tempt Jarno with.

Fisichella, JV, DC or Mika (now there's a wild rumour) would keep that true, and I think Giancarlo's the favourite for the drive.

Martin mentioned at the beginning of the broadcast that he'd spoken to someone in the paddock who'd told him that Trulli was talking to BAR.
The Toyota rumours have to be explained - the rumours are that Trulli has a contract for Toyota but he hasn't signed yet. Best bet for him is to consider all options - he could well be better off at BAR. |

BAR are unlikely to have a vacancy - resigning Sato is a mere formality as far as I know.

Martin was right in the thick of rumours on the grid, mentioned the one about Trulli to BAR during the race IIRC.
Doubt that will happen but perhaps that'd mean Sato to Toyota, or one of the current drivers staying. |
