What is the deal with S. Speed?

Is he really that bad? The Americans must be scratching their heads if this is the best they've got.

Yeah, uhm... Actually, scratching my head is just what I'm doing. I expected a lot more from Scott.

I'm really more troubled with Paul Edwards in Nissan World Series.

How have those Americans done so far? I lost track of where they all are.

Grant Maiman - German and European Formula Renault
Joel Nelson - Euro F3000
Scott Speed - Brit F3
Paul Edwards - Nissan Series

Lee Nissan's is incredibly competitive this year, so rate Paul more on his gap from pole than the physical position on the track.

Edwards is not bad but he is not Formula One material. He gets too much bad luck (crashes).

Never heard of Scott Speed - cool name though.

Lee calm your boots - Pauls had some poor luck but I think Magny Cours or Monza will hopefully bring out the best in him. He is F1 material, hes just never had the comfort zone of being able to consistantly show it.

Didn't Speed break both his wrists during preseason testing or something? If so it might have affected his confidence, which is bad enough in an ultra-competitive series like British F3. So he might actually have an excuse.

Edwards has done alright.

Nelson didn't exactly impress in Euro F3000.

Is Maiman still alive?

I dont know that there's a lot better.

I think its a case of training. You cant realistically expect a driver raised on US racing (US passport or otherwise) to be competitive in the European system from the word go

Grant Maiman races in the German Formula Renault series. He qualified 18th and 12th for the first two races and finished
both races in 16th position,he is also 16th in the overall standings.
(Most websites claim that he will race in the Eurocup too but the Eurocup for Formula Renault 2000 drivers doesnt exist anymore
as it's been replaced by the FRenault V6 Eurocup.Maiman will combine his German campaign with Master's FReanult 2000,a series that has only four races, two during the summer and two in october and the prize is a FRenault V6 test, and if he wins the V6 series too,
well there the prize is a Renault-F1 test so i would say Maiman has already found the way to F1,but i dont say it

Joel Nelson races in Euro3000 which wasnt canceled but indeed has an unusually small line-up this year.
Joel was the first signed driver of the current season but he wasnt fast during the pre-season tests, the season opener was on the Nurburgring, only 13 drivers was there but Joel still managed to qualify 9th and finish the race a lap behind the leader in
10th position. The second round was at Magny-Cours this weekend Joel qualified a nice 5th but did not finish the race.He scored zero point so far but it will be a hard job to maintain this with such a small number of drivers competing.

About Scott Speed's F3 and Paul Edwards' SWS campaigns you probably have all the information,Edwards is not that bad....considering that
he is American

he's not American (Canadian), but anyone know how Billy Asaro's performance thus far in F3? He got his start in Canadian Formula Ford and later did well in US F2000, but decided to go the British motorsports route, and has just started F3. Just curious if anyone has any opinions on him thus far...

Russfeld you don't know much.
Americans can't compete right away?
If you are good you can compete anywhere.
Pat Long.... Please! He is a little slower than Danica Patrick!!!
Julian was on the pace from the begining and he had nothing like the experience of all the current US drivers. Stopmaking excuses for Americans if they are no good than that 's it.
There are other foreigners from all kinds of countries. They don't seem to cry about the system. Just put your damn foot down and drive. If you don't cut it than get out and let someone else have a go.
Scott Speed is not cutting it.

Long was pretty good, Ok he didn't have the best season last year but he did switch teams halfway through the season which can't have helped and moved from a Hamilton dominated setup to a Watts/Green setup.

Still got some good results though.

Billy is a great driver. Too bad there wasnt a canadian red bull search!! the sport relies too much on marketing and not enough on talent. And for this reason the sport of "motorcar racing" absolutely sucks!!
