F1 brakes

hi
i was watching the brazillian grand prix tonight, and i was glimpsing during the pits that the brakes on the car has no visable disc, and on the outer wheel edge there is a strange disc that blanks off the outer edge of the wheel.

can anyone give me any information as to what type of brakes these cars run and how do they work, just wondering as under the wheel it just seems like a cylindrical hub?

any info please?

thanks

that Strange disk is an aerodynamic aid. Air flows over the wheel, not though so helps with increasing speed.

Brembo and AP Racing tend to be the most used, then Alcon. But not your ordinary brakes most IIRC are 8 pot and some 6 pot.

the Rotors are Carbon Ceramic, with Hitco and Carbon Industries the most use rotors and brake pads from the same companies.

there are no visable disks because they have a cover over the whole brake assembly

ubrben has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
The air does flow through the wheel, the drums merely blank the flow path except for the cooling inlet itself. This allows the precise amount of air to be controlled rather than stopped completely.

The discs aren't carbon ceramic they're carbon fibre reinforced carbon (CFRC)
