Well, I wrote to Jeb Bush about this. To my surprise, considering the countless letters he must recieve, he actually wrote me back. (Or had someone do it for him, who knows? It looks like he did it... And because of that, my respect for the Bush family just went up a notch.)

Quote:
Thank you for writing regarding the autopsy photographs of Dale Earnhardt. The Earnhardt family has suffered a terrible tragedy, and I believe their wishes should be respected.

The Florida Constitution affords public records very special protections. While I appreciate the importance of making public records open for inspection, there should be limits. I will be working with the Florida Legislature to pass a law to maintain the privacy of autopsy photographs so the Earnhardt family and others who have lost a loved one can avoid needless suffering.

Thank you again for writing.

Sincerely,

Jeb Bush

Also, it would appear that he is doing what he said he would do in this letter.

Volusia court delays Earnhardt autopsy hearing

The last paragraph of this article states: "While Wednesday's hearing was underway, Rumberger cited a news conference in the Florida capitol of Tallahassee, where Governor Jeb Bush and legislators were scheduled to introduce a bill to prohibit the release of autopsy photographs."

I can't believe anyone could be sick or desperate enough to contemplate such a disrespectful act so soon after a tragedy which has affected so many people.
I am amazed that Teresa and the family has the will or energy to fight these pillocks after losing Dale.
Are there really people out there so morbid that they want to see autopsy pictures to prove or disprove anything?
How can these people sleep nights?

I agree

I couldn't agree with you more. Thank goodness for Judge Will, putting off the hearing until the 19th of March, lawmakers SHOULD be able to get a bill passed by then.

I live in Florida and I hate knowing that anyone's picture can be asked for by anyone, be it Dale Earnhardt's my kids or even my very own.

I read today, that someone from Florida may have an autopsy photo, of course, the medical examiner's office says it must be a fake, but that 10-12 people did have access to it. The person who has it, was given it because he was a fan. I don't understand how any NASCAR fan would want anything so morbid, not that his death was Morbid, but I don't think I would want a pic of it.

I hope this all goes the Earnhardt's way.

Gov. Bush, lawmakers want to keep autopsy photos private

14,000 emails and hundreds of telephone calls? Is that all? You'd think there would be many more than that... Oh well, at least it's working.
