Le Mans 2005 forfitted entries...............
Hi all,
I have heard through the grapevine that a significant amount teams who have been picked to enter Le Mans have not paid the 32000 euros due on the 13th April and have therefore forfitted their entries. Some rumours suggest that upto 15 teams are in this situation. Now that Nasamax have formerly resigned their entry aren't the ACO going to have to publish a supplementary list? Hopefully if this is the case the LNTs and Essex Zytek will get the entries they deserve? If anyone could shed any light on this it would be much obliged. Meanwhile i thought i would set up a poll to see who you would like to get onto a supplementary list if there was one......... |

I can't believe they'd run a race without the maximum number of entries - would reduce the popularity of the event, surely - but if teams don't raise the cash then it's their own fault. Do the reserves have to pay in advance too?

The sooner they announce this the better, then... afterall, how long can a team possibly need to prepare for Le Mans, now that we are just a couple of months or so away from the "big one"?

Yeah,
The sooner the better for the other teams, although preparation time would not be more than a couple of weeks - Not months! Secondly it looks as though all the teams are banging their heads against a wall trying to get info, the best way would just be to wait i think. |

It is a little unfair on teams who have had very little time to prepare. But that's when they can shine - if they can show they can do well with little preparation, then they may get invited back for a proper go at it next time around...
I'd like to see a little more variety added - yeah sure the Zytek - but the LNT cars in GT2 along with the Nissan 350Z - something to challenge the Peninsula car! and maybe a couple more Saleens in GT1 - that class hasn't had a larger-numbered entry for ages |

i doubt 15 teams didnt pay up. that just doesnt make sense.
but we will see, if i had the option of adding in 3 more entries, i would add the Zytek, LNT TVR and Nash Saleen |

If the extent of withdrawn entries is even half the number being touted we will see the GNM Saleen in June.

15 is a bit of a large number... between 5 and 10 is more believable - that still uses most of/more than the reserve list though. Has this situation ever occured before? Recently, that is...

well, last year we had the problem with everyone withdrawing, but its not for this reason. very strange.. i cant see teams not paying for their spots.. its 32,000 euros.. thats a lot to us, but in the teams mind, thats not that expensive.. |

Let's wait and see, I still think we are all wishing for very well deserved entries (Zytek, LNT) to be there and this fires up our imagination. I cannot imagine that 78 teams wanted to enter, and from the 57 officially invited 15 cannot/will not make it!!! (plus Nasamax, etc. etc.) In a moment where interest is soaring I would be surprised although i would not mind if LNT would be in LM instead of...say....the WRs!!!

I think, having read it a few times on this forum, the ACO has a safe bet with the WR's because they know they are still more likely to be running than most people come 4pm Sunday. LNT, as much I would love to see these cars on the grid, they can't guarantee that. Unless it's the WR's who this time who haven't paid their fees or can't make it....!? how likely is that lol

Can someone post an up-to-date list of the reserves, taking account of the recent withdrawals?

So that would mean the T2M 911 is in assuming that car is not one that also going to withdraw now that Miss Ickx has found a seat at Rollcentre. I find it hard to believe that up to 15 teams would not pay. That pretty much guarantee the AOC never offer you a place again. |

as far as i know all you need to do is look at the original list, knock the nasamax off and add the tm2 porsche.

When submitting an entry, are teams asked if they would be willing to go on the reserve list if unsuccessful about being placed on the main list?

Yes it seems unlikely given the quality of the cars selected (in terms of cost to purchase etc) that there would be that many teams not show up.... but budgets can be tough to come across as we know...
The teams are automatically placed on the reserve list, it's not a request thing... Usually the reserves all get to run at the test day as it's a decent amount of time before the race... I assume this year they probably won't be invited unless there are entries not paid. LNT will not be getting entries this year no matter how much people want them too... some people seem to rub the ACO up the wrong way and they never forget like an elephant... I hear they are in the unpopular camp with Saleen but it's all paddock rumour. I'm in touch with one of the cars near the bottom of the reserve list, I'll let you know if it sounds like they're going to get a run... Cheers Rick |

Pure rumour, but as I understand Saleen upset the ACO when they were homologating the car...
LNT apparently upset them at Spa last year... something to do with paperwork and attitude but I stress that's a very unreliable rumour. Certainly they would appear to deserve an entry on the showing at Spa Interesting that the other TVR didn't really seem to deserve an entry on it's form last year, I'd imagine they were keen to get that one in for the Brit fans in order to ensure they could snub LNT... I can't imagine they simply forgot about them somehow, it must have been deliberate... Bentley03, I'll drop them a line!!! Cheers Rick |

btw: in that race the WR finished 11th, 2 laps ahead of the only Saleen that managed to reach the fiinish. The Works Zytek was not on the grid. So if the last LMES race before the entry list was released was taken into account by the ACO it may help explain some of cars either being on the list or not. |

David Leslie said the A.C.O wanted to move away from "Works" teams hence the Zytek not getting in. What about the Courages eh??? And another thing if companies such as Porsche, Jaguar, Merc and many more had not invested in this race in the past it would not be the success it is today! I'm sure the A.C.O will still gladly take our money though.

I think this is only David Leslie's thinking and not based on fact. The entry list as you rightly point out, points towards the ACO thinking on different lines!
Aston. Corvette. Courage. WR. Spyker. Dome. Lucchini. Panoz. I think 1/2 the entry could be classed as a works team. |
