And Now I'm Really Worried!
Well today marked a milestone of sorts.
My son turned 17 years of age and to mark the occassion he went for his provissional licence. And passed first time. He is now on the raod in the mighty Mazda, which also managed to pass rego last month. No mean feat as it needed to gain a blue slip having been unregistered for 18 months. Now the worry really begins... |

yeah Im sure you taught him well Moff.
Congrats to him anyway and I hope he knows his limits and I hope you dont loose to hair worrying about it. best advice as my brother taught me to drive and not my parents , talk too him and not at him about car safety , seemed to work for me , perhaps some form of advance driving course would be a good idea just in case he does get in trouble. anyway conratulate him for all of us here |

An RX7 would be a nice touch given my membership name. But no, a '79/'80 model 626. Bought for $400 and then over eighteen months has had about $1200 spent on it. Not done as cheaply as was first intended. The street racing bit is what worries me. Not that he is going to cream anyone in the Mazda. |

That is a fine model... do you want some BBS lookalike 14" x 6" alloy wheels for it?
Cheap... |

As for the wheels Ray...
He has the choice of two sets of Mags now. One set could be construed to be early BBS look-a-likes. Painted black. The set on the car are Aunger five slot mags. Not bad for a period piece. I know them intimately having spent hours rubbing the pitting from the surfaces with wet and dry. |

Hardly... I'm amazed at a couple of things with young drivers today.
One... they don't want to know anything about it. Two... they are brought up believing that speed kills, and that taking that risk is fun and survivable... and that you don't have to know anything to do it. |

Take him out to a nice large parking lot and show him what it will and won't do...take him places where you can teach him and let him learn car control..and if you really love him get him out of that front driver and get him into a rear wheel drive car.

Umm, Strad,
It is an early model rear wheel drive 626. Umm, Ray, Your slipping, you should have spotted it. Strad, The vacant block next door then the local dirt roads have given him an idea about: 1. opposite lock steering 2. applying the above gently 3. feel 4. doing burnouts is not cool but the providence of heavy footed fools 5. carress the brakes |

we got ppl like that @ my skool, dis guy thinks he is the best jus cos his auto vn ute can rev to 4000 rpm, wa***r but what is wrong with getting to the speed limit as fast as possible? yeah some ppl speed, but everyone speeds, and if u ask me old drivers r just as bad ( no im not talking about u ray) going half the speed limit, not signaling and just being plain well.....brain dead ( check out B.U.G.G.E.R in MAX Power, Ban Unfit Grey-haired Gits From Europe's Roads) shows some nice examples of fallin asleep at the wheel and driving in to a house, and parking on railway tracks Last edited by StuiE; 26 Mar 2002 at 13:58. |

AMoffat..cool I didn't know that the early 626s were rear drive...I should have, I have driven them albeit for only short dashes...
Too cool that you have begun to teach him car control and to have a feel for what the car is doing. Driving is more -to me anyway- than staying between the lines and getting from point A to McDonalds to point B. |

Moff, replying to your post in another thread, I didn't want that one to go off topic, how is the Mazda and why is he considering a GM product, and what pray tell is it?
