COOL site. But if you get the time, have a look at my attempts to build one from scratch at http://www.mallettracing.co.uk
If you have any comments use my yahoo addy cos I haven't worked out how to divert my mail from mallettracing yet. Another thing I need help with is...... How do you post thumbnails and get them to work? All thoughts gratefully received but it will be about four weeks until I can make changes. BTW. There are a couple of page link glitches but see what you think. I can even add links to other sites except Club @rse, nmainly cos I've never visited that site. |

Wow. Nice job there Mallett.
For my site, I shrink the size of the picture on the page. I don't know if it's a thumbnail or not though - I use naff old Pagebuilder on Geocities so I do the best I can. And of course, a link to my page *shameless self-promo alert AGAIN* http://www.geocities.com/minardi_fan/ is always welcome. Marcus and Mallett, I will link your sites to mine when I update it sometime this week. |

Bravo Peter !!!!..nice job and a rather nice machine ya have there...as for thumbnails I like minardi fan use geocities where there is an option to shrink the picture to any size...im not sure about your site though..if that is not an option this is what I understand how thumbnails work.,..
firstly you have to scan the pic twice..first at a smaller resolution (whatever size you want the thumb to be) and then scan it again at the larger size..obviously you have to give them different names otherwise the new one will replace the other in your file manager..something like pete01.jpg for the thumb and then pete02.jpg for the large..and simply link them together and your away...thats my limited experience of it but it should work in theory.. anyway top job on your site and I will visit often and i am about to add yours and SNH's as links on my site when im done here..check it out when ya's can and if ya want the link changed then let me know and the job will be done. gee everyone else is pluggin away so here goes http://www.geocities.com/racing_au |

thanks for that Marcus. I use Front Page Express which is part of word. I thought that was how you did the thumbnails thing so will try when I'm next on line at home. Will also add links. The page is already edited and on a floppy awaiting uploading from home. Can't do it from work.
Cheers |

Peter,
You have a paint package of some type don't you? PSP 5? Photoshop? Just import your photo, resize the image to, say, 100 pixels wide and save it as another file (e.g. save a resized "arse.jpg" as "t_arse.jpg"). That's a thumbnail because it takes less time to load onto a page then the bigger version. Merely telling the big version to display at a smaller width/ height on the page (like in Frontpage) is not thumbnailing because a visitor still downloads the large file. Did that make sense? If you don't have TOO many photos, I could very quickly do it for you in Photoshop. Send to: graham@british-motorsport.fsnet.co.uk |

Well, I know how to resize them and place them on the page. (You just hyperlink to the file.) The problem I've got is how to make the thumbs link to the full size pic as in "click on the thumbnail to view the full size picture."
BTW. Keep it up people, I appreciate your efforts. |

Try this:
<a href="/images/arse.jpg"><img src="/images/arse_thumbnail.jpg" width="xx" height="xx" alt="A picture of an arse!"></a> |

That's the stuff. But I'd recommend adding the border="0" thingy to it, thus :
<a href="/images/arse.jpg"><img src="/images/arse_thumbnail.jpg" width="xx" height="xx" alt="A picture of an arse!" border="0"></a> It gets rid of those god-awful borders around the thumbnail. Bye. |
