Good Move...
I'm sick of it, too...
The Moderators have had to wear suits of armor by moderating both boards and herding cats to keep things in line.... Until rumors become facts...and there will be ONE series...keep them separate... they are on separate paths... I apologize to the mods for my rant in a thread that probably led to this policy... But I'm sick of it...the bickering, the sniping, the stiff-necked attitudes... I watch both Series..I follow both Series... But the sniping is nonsense...it is counter-productive, and it will get us nowhere I threw out a number of personal thoughts based on what I've read in both forums in that rant...because that is the way I see it...based on various views... If I was out of line, I apologize to the Forum members and especially to the Mods....you don't deserve to play traffic cops 24/7 But I don't see anything coming together ..at least among the fans...and it is sad... because we all love open-wheel racing.... Leave the principals of both sides out of it... Can't WE try to play a part in fixing whatever is wrong with BOTH Series??? |

When I was at the "500" none of this petty stuff mattered, and when I looked out over the sea of people I forgot all of the bickering back and forth and remembered what was truly important.
If I was a moderator I'd encourage everyone to get a dose of that and call me the next day. |

I was there too..in the 3rd Turn... Incredible wasn't it...regardless of which Series it was.... Great action..a beautiful afternoon...and a sea of people on their feet during the last 20 laps cheering as a great finish unfolded... It is what open-wheeled racing has been all about for me for nearly 40 years I dont care which letters in the alphabet soup have come up in my spoon when I've dipped into that bowl on any given race weekend each racing season.... I love open-wheeled racing..always have..always will..regardless of politics... But that doesn't mean I won't call them as I see them..I just don't get paid for it...like some pundits...objective or otherwise... |

I'm leary of leaving this up for discussion...
A firm decision has been made, and we're going to enforce it. We do not expect to see the intials "KK" on this board any more than we expect to read "TG" on the "other" board. At least, not until the next time reps from each series' head-offices meet in an airport hangar, a subway or a corner gas station, with a reliable news-source to report about it! |

That's fine with me, and it is understood...makes perfect sense, and it is best for you and the rest of the Mods as well...
Don't blame you one bit...I'd do the same if I were in your shoes... |

Well, my opinion on all this is that... it's about time to focus on Texas anyway.

I know how such talk degenerates into bickering and personal attacks so I will abide by the rule as I have for sometime now.
But its kind of like ignoring that dam 800 pound gorilla. No topic is more pertinent to the future of open wheel racing in North America. |

I would agree with your last statement, rush1....
But we aren't going to resolve it as fans....I enjoy discussing it, too...but there is two much animosity there, and the factions end up spewing the same things whenever this topic comes up.... But I will say that I find it "ironic" that very little, if anything, has been written or released in the media about this subject now that the month of May is over.... Coincidence???? |

In many ways its a non issue. I live in Minneapolis and people are now talking to me about Indy Car racing. They never watched a race in their lives till the media picked up Danica Patrick's story. My brother in law told me he enjoyed watching the 500 this year but was dissapointed it ended under a yellow. I have known the man for 5 years and he never mentioned anything to me about motorsport. They know nothing of the split and could care less. Not the same in Indy where I grew up. Its very refreshing. |

Didn't know you were from here!!!!! That's cool!!!! But most of the people I've talked to or know here...they do talk about it...and the camps are evenly split.... The ones that are not IRL fans now are not necessarily fans of the other Series though...they have their problems with TG, because of the "lean years" following the split...but they still go to the Race, and they watch NASCAR the rest of the time...or they got to Raceway Park to watch the USAC open-wheelers.... I know others who weren't happy about it, but they got a chance to get Race tickets back in the late 1990s and are now in the pecking order...and they still enjoy the Race itself... They want the Race to succeed, but they want one Series... |

Well said Tim!
The point I was making above was only to say that it really makes no difference to most people at the track on raceday. What matters most is that Mother Nature cooperates and let's us get the 200 laps in (or 101 depending on how ya look at it ) To me it's been important to find common ground that can be worked on so that all of the fans feel comfortable. I love the really passionate fans even if I don't like what or how they say what they say, so long as they're passionate about their series, I know someday we'll be rooting in the same venue. I have a dream .... |

So do I, trow...
so do I.... and I was there for the "Shortest Race" ever...1976...Lone Star JR won it in 103 Laps...as well as in 1973, 1975, 2004, etc.... 200 laps is all I want....and for the action to be as good as it has been whenever I've gone....except the year that Penske built the special "Indy Rules Engine" with Mercedes.... The yellow this year was disappointing, but it happened...I still believe Dan would have won.... |

Vitor was definitely one of the two fastest cars on the tack in the last 40 laps...but the wreck actually occurred just before Lap 199 was to be completed, and he wasn't quite close enough to reel him in...IMO....
He had soem problems getting by Danica...(not her faulty, she was not blocking or anything)...but if he could have passed her ooner, I would agree.... He hwas charging hard and was a definite player in the mix.... |

Although I am from the Hinterlands (anywhere that is not Indianapolis! ) I really enjoyed the racing part of this year's race and I especially enjoy the comments posted above.
I sometimes think that if there were no split, some folks would actually lose interest as there are those on both sides of the arguement who seem to just want to keep arguing: they all profess to "love" racing but when a good race takes place, the Series it is sanctioned by becomes the determining factor as to whether it was "good" or not. Me, I like the dicing, the pit strategy, the technical adjustments to make the car better during the race and watching the drivers react to the pressures involved. The more of that the better! And we got bags of it at the 500 as well as Texas this year. BTW, Dan I think had the 500 in the bag at the end, I don't think Vitor had enough to get past him even if he had gotten closer. As for me, I will continue to enjoy good racing. Speaking of which, it is about time I went to Lernerville to see the Sprint cars and hear the sounds of racing engines!
