VSCC Spring Start -12/13 April
I'm going to do an Al and say I cannot see this on Peter's excellent calendar.
This is going to be a superb 2 day meeting at Silverstone next weekend. Apart from all the usual splendid VSCC fare, there is an all ERA race with at least 12 of the 16 (or 17?) built entered plus HGPCA, FJHRA, 500s and a couple of 50s sports car races, the first of which is The George Abecassis Trophy Race on Saturday. On the back of last year's successful Centenary race, I was able to obtain Abecassis family approval, and the go ahead from VSCC to run the Trophy race with a broadening to the scope of eligible cars. I sent out 90 invites and then chased, and chased .... and chased. The result was about 40 acceptances, 33 of whom converted to actual entries (max grid 34) and although we've lost one today, and you always lose one or two, I reckon it will still be as good a 50s sports/sports racing grid as any at the recent Goodwood meeting, but I would say that wouldn't I. Just be there! Full details of the weekends racing here:- http://www.vscc.co.uk/page/events?eventID=826 |

I tried to capture the VSCC dates but couldn't find them when I did the calendar so apologies. It wasn't on purpose just timing.

John,
I will be there on Saturday spectating and looking forward to a good day's racing. VSCC is always worth going along to and a wonderful bunch of people. I will drive up in the eponymous (always wanted to use that word) black Lancia Aprilia, parked in the pre-war parking area. Nick |

Nick, Rudolf, It would be great to catch up with you both but I suspect I'll be running around like a headless chicken on Saturday. Still, if I can get back on Sunday, it'll be a bit quieter for me!
Rudolf, I've got have another go at signing you and the Keift up to our FLIERS concept! |

Well, the 33 car grid for the Abecassis Trophy has stood up so far. We lost 2 but gained 2 late entries, so anyone wanting to see up to 6 HWMs, a C type Jaguar, several Astons, Frazer Nashes, a couple of Allards including Tom Walkers Le Mans version, Healey Silverstones, Austin Healeys, a Ferrari, a Maserati, a very rare Veritas brought over from Germany and Nick Leston's (son of the late Les) 1951 Gregory V8 should get to Silverstone on Saturday. Anyone into 1950s sports cars should then go back on Sunday since the VSCC's own 50s race has a lot of different cars to ours. The ERA race is also on the Sunday, and Kev has done an article on them in tomorrows issue of Autosport. Loads of good stuff going on at this meeting over the weekend. Just hope the weather is as good as it was last year.

Lots of lovely cars on track and some good racing.
I do hope the driver who had the incident at Brooklands run off is OK |

Does anyone have news of the two drivers, Richard Bishop-Miller and John Turner, who were involved in the very nasty accident at Beckett's in Sunday's 500 F3 race?

I was also involved in that race and both drivers are good friends of mine. I have been told by family that John is in Coventry hospital with three broken ribs and a punctured lung - he is expected to remain there for several days. Richard is is awaiting a Specialist to look at a fractured vertebrae this morning, he is in Northampton General.
The families have the full support of members of the club and from what I understand the marshalls and medics did a fantastic job trackside. Once again thank you to all of these volunteers who give up their time to allow us to play with our passions and yet perform such professional tasks when called upon. Stuart Wright |

Many thanks Stuart. I witnessd the accident and was very concerned about John and Richard - John especially as his car appeared to land on top of him. I wish them both a speedy recovery.

from the VSCC website:
"Garry Whyte, driving a GN Gnome was involved in a rollover accident resulting in serious injuries. No other car or driver was involved." I am sorry to hear that Garry Whyte has succumbed to his injuries. Condolences to his family. This does get under my skin. I urge every racer to look seriously at this rollover protection. Even it would have been near impossible for fit something in pre war like the GN. Rudolf |

It is indeed a tragedy and many of us have lost a dear friend.
One plea though, can we please not have a knee jerk conversation about rollover protection. |

Yes a dreadful outcome and a sharp reminder if ever we needed one that motor racing is still a dangerous sport, particularly when it involves older cars. It was a dark weekend for the historics with the loss of two of our community and two more hospitalised.
However, on that sombre note, may I nevertheless point you at our website where a full report and results of the George Abecassis Race appears along with a number of photos, which I will be adding to, in due course. http://fiscar.org/george-abecassis-trophy-race/ |
