Monkey Head should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
2007 Formula Nippon

First Pratice Session undergoing from wet to dry,Hiranaka fastest and Lotterer 2nd,Bjorn on 5th,TOM'S newly signed driver Seiji Ara 6th fastest on timing.

Seems TOM'S didn't sign contract with Reid is the right decision

Ara is going to have quite a year for racing in 2007. Racing for TOM'S in FN, and also taking over for Eric Comas as the new #1 for Kondo Racing in Super GT. Although I'm actually paying closer attention to his Super GT teammate, Joao Paulo Lima de Oliveira.

why the fact that TOM's did not signed with Reid is the right decision?

seems he is looking better in timing.....(17th in 2nd session with 0.8sec slower)
and his salary cheaper than Reid,I belive(Reid's salary may rise because of A1 peformance)

i have no comfirmations about that but i do not believe the second Tom's seat was for free...i do not believe Tom's will pay a driver like Ara... neither Jonny Reid who had 2 very disapointing seasons in Japanese F3

Shame for Oliveira?

Who was best of the newcomers to the series by the way?

Krumm is not a newcomer, is a returnée. Raced on late nineties and his last appearance before this return happened when he was Motoyama's teammate (as is it now) at Team Impul, during early races of 2002 season.

Just thought Id mention for anyone whos interested, there is a 1 hour highlights programme of Formula Nippon from Suzuka this weekend at 15:00 on British Eurosport 2. Should be good, been a long time since I've seen any decent coverage of Nippon.

Yes, that's excellent news SALEEN, thanks. Gone straight into my reminders on my phone!

I haven't seen coverage of these for at least a couple of years, probably on WMS on sky.

How come Eurosport have got some coverage? Interesting.

Funny that FN has experienced drivers like Krumm and Ara driving there. I don't see many older drivers driving in GP2 in Europe. But I guess FN is a pretty big deal in Japan?

As it has been said before on this forum , the formula Nippon is a "professional" racing serie , nothing to see with GP2 who is "feeder" of F1 and DTM, GP2 is for "Kids", Formula Nippon is for experienced drivers, most of them get money for driving in Formula Nippon or at least free ride

Yeah thats about right META4, however I dont think it would be fair to say that all the drivers in Nippon are just older professionals. I would imagine theres a few there who still harbour hopes of making it into F1 one day.

Quite a large number of ex-FN champions have made it into F1 (De La Rosa, Schumacher, Firman, Takagi). However, I don't think it's as competative as GP2, which definately hinders their chances.

Still good to watch though; experience helps avoid all idiots.

Takagi went champion after his F1 period, I do not think Motoyama,Treluyer,MAtsuda,... are fencing a drive in F1 maybe DUVAL could be the only one but i do not give him much chances... wait and see

Keep in mind if European drivers went to Japan it is because they had not the budget to race in Europe

But Treluyer's a top, top driver (IMO the best driver in the series the last few seasons) and should already have had a chance in F1, if even to see how he went in a test!

Still he's carved out a career out there and good for him.
