BMP CLARIFIES CONTINUED SUPPORT OF POWERTOUR

On behalf of BMP, I would like to reassure everyone within PowerTour that we are committed to ensuring the future success of the series.

The on-track content will remain unchanged for the remainder of the 2001 season. Thereafter, the PowerTour name will be dropped to enable us to concentrate on promoting the British F3 and GT championships, both of which are strong brands in their own right.

We recognise and value the contribution of all our partners, and competitors, involved in PowerTour. Given the recent media speculation, I wish to clarify the following points:

a.. PowerTour for the remainder of the 2001 season

a.. All the current elements of the package - British F3 & GTs, TVR Tuscans, Formula Ford, Porsche Cup and Ford Fiestas - will remain together.

a.. The television deals with Channel 4 and Sky Sports will continue as planned, with MSC as producer.

a.. The marketing programme headed by Kevin Best of Sales Link has been discontinued. Other than Autosport coverage, marketing has now been passed to individual circuits.

a.. The full-page colour advert in Autosport to promote the next round of the series will continue up to and including round 7 (Castle Combe). It will also include round 10 (Knockhill).

a.. Cloverleaf's PR coverage for the British F3 and GT championships will continue. It will also continue to provide programmes. Radio coverage by Talking Point (Patrick Russell) has been discontinued.

a.. At rounds 5, 6, 7 & 10, the entertainment package previously employed (open paddock, pit lane walkabouts, autograph sessions, track and air displays, grid girls, bands, end of day podium and PT village etc) will continue with the same timetable.

a.. At rounds 8, 9, 11, 12 & 13, the above package will be at the discretion of the venue.

a.. Round 13 will no longer be a night race. It will revert to a two-day meeting on Sept 29/30.

a.. The 'Ones to Watch' promotion will be discontinued after this weekend's round at Croft.

a.. PowerTour Radio is to continue.

a.. The use of the PowerTour web site will be continued.

a.. The PowerTour hospitality centre run by Showplace (Trevor Lewis) will continue.

a.. The use of the PowerTour name will continue until the end of 2001.

2 PowerTour management

Roger Etcell has, with immediate effect, stepped down from his position of series director. John Taylor will take over the day-to-day operation of PowerTour.

Yours sincerely,

Robert Fearnell

Chairman, British Motorsport Promoters
Not surprised to see Roger Etchell stand down after they did that little lot to 'his baby'

Shame about the cancellation of the night race though - combined with the lack of camping at this Saturday's BTCC meeting it reduces three weekends I was particularly looking forward to down to one...
