2011 Drivers and Teams
So far the only drivers that have been confirmed to be racing next year are Rob Huff, Alain Menu and Yvan Muller for Chevrolet, Robert Dahlgren for Polestar and Pepe Oriola for Sunred. With BMW leaving as a manufacturer entry, both Augusto Farfus and Andy Priaulx will not be racing next year, due to their commitments with BMW. Sadly Equipo Petrobras Honda will not be racing next year due to issues with engines. I wonder what car they would of entered with. Most of the rumours were pointing to either the City or the Civic - I'm guessing the American model seeing the Equipo Petrobras team is from Argentina.
Meanwhile, looking on his website Colin Turkington wants to race full time in the WTCC. This might mean WSR might also come in full time with one or two other drivers, possibly representing BMW along with Engstler, Proteam and Wiechers, so this would mean BMW still has a strong representation regardless of the works team leaving. Also Bamboo wants to come back with Cruzes. However, and I stress, none of this is confirmed so we might have something unexpected happening. 2011 will be an interesting year... |

I have heard that Kristian Poulsen is confirmed for a full year return to "Liqui Moly Team Engstler" after his good 2010 season. BTW as I understand it, then Pepe Oriola is confirmed for Sunred in the Independents' Trophy, not for SR-Sport. Do you also understand it like that? |

There seems to be three 2011 WTCC threads (Drivers&Teams, New Manufacturers, Calendar)... I dunno where this should be posted, but TDI-Leon is the only car not to get weight compensation for the opening round of 2011 season.
From sporting regulations (weights per tech regulations of relevant year in italics): 2010 spec. cars: - SEAT Léon 2.0 Tdi (A-5711): 1170 kg (FWD S2000D 1170kg) = 0kg - SEAT Léon 2.0 TFSI (A/N-5687): 1150 kg (FWD S2000 w/ seq. gearbox 1170kg) = -20kg - BMW E90 320 Si (A-5696): 1155 kg (RWD S2000 w/ gr.N gearbox 1170kg) = -15kg - BMW E46/4FL (A-5658): 1155 kg (1170kg) = -15kg - CHEVROLET Lacetti (A/N-5679): 1140 kg (1170kg) = -30kg - CHEVROLET Cruze (A-5726): 1150 kg (1170kg) = -20kg - LADA Priora (A-5727): 1150 kg (1170kg) = -20kg - VOLVO C30 (SBF-001): 1150 kg (1170kg) = -20kg - HONDA ACCORD EURO R (A-5697): 1150 kg (1170kg) = -20kg 2011 spec. cars: - BMW E90 320 Si (A-5696/1.6l T): 1170 kg (RWD 1.6T 1200kg) = -30kg - CHEVROLET Cruze (A-5726/1.6l T): 1150 kg (FWD 1.6T 1170kg) = -20kg What's the point? |

I guess it depends on the tyres and so on, but a RWD car may well do well this year. With more torque going through the driven wheels, looking after the tyres will become slightly more important.
I've long thoughts that the WTCC races were always too short for BMW to play its trump card; tyre preservation. If the races were 5 laps longer, then you may well see the front wheel drive cars struggling more towards the end, whereas the BMW's would have their tyres in much better shape. |

What you have quoted is the new base weights, which have been set by specification. FWD 1.6T engine = 1150kg RWD 1.6T engine = 1170kg FWD S2000 = 1150kg RWD S2000 = 1155kg FWD S2000 TD = 1170kg The compensation weights (+40kg/-20kg) calculated based on the rolling average of the previous 3 rounds are not included in the above figures. In a change this year, all cars will start the season with the maximum (+40kg) compensation weights. It's the base weight of the Leon TDi that has not changed, not the compensation weight. |

Despite, the numbers on WTCC page (which you quoted) are partly wrong. That release is based on the car list in an appendix of the sporting rules. The list has 1140kg for Lacetti, so not all 2-litre FWD have a base weight of 1150kg. As I believe the very same people have prepare the both documents, it's a bit hard to understand why 2011 spec 1.6T engined cars have minimum weights of 1200kg (RWD) and 1170kg (FWD) in the technical regulations but some 20-30kg less in the suporting rules. |

Petter Solberg in the WTCC, 2011/2012?
Petter Solberg is looking for a drive next year in the WTCC.
With the rumours of Subaru entering in 2012, then maybe we might see Petter racing in the WTCC in a year or two. If he does enter then that should make things, hopefully, interesting again. |

He, Muller and Huff are confirmed a while ago.
Solberg interested in WTCC? Wow didn't see that coming. Of course it's a lot cheaper as WRC. |

I'm not sure it would have anything to do with Subaru, didn't he fall out with them a bit at the end of their time together? Or that might have been him and ProDrive, or maybe ProDrive and subaru come to think of it.
I'd love to see this happen, but then I'd love to see him take another WRC title. Just hope he finally has a good year. |

Sollbergs potential move has nothing to do with Subaru, only with budgets.

I haven't found this bit of news in english yet, but apparently Tom Coronel is going to drive for Roberto Ravaglia's team. The team will be using a BMW with the new 1,6 T engine.

Has the E90 been facelifted again? That car has the front end of the E90 M3. Unless that's only for illustration purposes.

They aren't only seeking drivers for WTCC as they would like to join GT3 Asia ( or Japan GT3,I can't sure)with Z4 GT3 .However propably they have found one....he raced in PCCA last season.

Engstler and Poulsen together for 2011.
Also because it makes more sense here, rather than the new manufacturers thread, Turkington wants a full time drive in the WTCC. |
