Some FR 2000 questions

I am looking for a Formula Renault 2000 car, moving away from my formula ford which I had for a number of years.... I thought with the introduction of the new cars they would have come down in price but am still seeing them for 20-30k. Thats F3 money, you can pick up a Dallara F300-F304.

Any ideas what I should realistically be looking to pay for one? and where I can source a good car from. Few people have mentioned trying some race teams in Europe... Any tried this route?

Hi,

We are a current FRBARC team tunning FR2000. You should expect to pay in the regon of £20000 to £25000 for a good car, anything less than that and it will not be the best maintained car. If you get a good one the engine and box will run forever. Just bear in mind the time/effort to rebuild the uprights, brakes, rack, rockers box etc.

Ask uk BARC teams (Not us...).

Yes.. and no. The vast magority of the parts are Renault standard (Valves, rings, bearings etc) and can be obtained from your renault dealer, un-sealed parts of the engine (sensors, manifolds, ancilarys and all other car spairs can be obtained from R.Sport in wimbledon (John Millet, 02085407366), but if you need FR2000 specific sealed conponents (cam-shafts, sump etc) then you need to speak to the engine builders

Hmmm, initial expense is the same as buying an F3 car... 25-30k is a bit pricey

What are the current entry fees and requirements to race in BARC? can you do one off guest races?

You must be a racing member of the BARC (£160), hold a nat b race licence, your car must have all its seals intact and tracable in the UK, and the engine must have been dyno-tested by Renault Sport in either 2009 or 2010. If not it will need to be tested first. If the engine is eligible it will have a black seal tag on it.

You can do one off races, but you must still pay the full registration fee, reduced pro-rata for how far through the season is. Full fee is £2344 for the 2009 season. All the race meetings are double headders, and you must enter the whole meeting. Entry fee for 2 x quali and 2 x race is about £400 give or take depending on track.

Also you can only use tyres from your allocation now, so you would need a set of new boots. These are about £550 + VAT. Thats about it! Testing is extra as per normal.

Thanks for the info, appreciate it.

Do you or anyone else know where I can get a copy of a chassis setup manual, or workshop manual for the FR2000? Similar to the Dallara manuals where it gives base settings etc..

Looking for some base setup data, ride height, toe settings etc... Just something as a base so I can use for testing and then build up from there...

You can get a 5 year old F3 chassis for 60K US?

Dang. Maybe someone over here would be well advised to start replacing some FIL cars with those. That would really help kids on this side of the pond.
