Britcar 2011
Britcar GT becomes the MSA British Endurance Championship this year.
MSA backing takes it another level up in the professional series ranks & by the end of the year, it may even count towards BRDC membership. The championship also forms part of the Sunoco Daytona challenge – top driver of which will run in a Daytona Prototype at the Daytona 24hr. Calendar: http://britcar24hr.co.uk/cms/e107_pl...php?content.66 Britcar pretty much allow any car so long as it will fit into the performance brackets: Class 1 is for GT2-GT3 type performance (including prototypes) Class 2 is for old spec GT3 type performance Class 3 is aimed at GT4 speeds In the Production category, there are 2 classes Class 1 is also for GT4 cars Class 2 is for real production cars (Seats & Hondas aplenty) Changes this year: Older Le Mans type prototypes are permitted (SRP2 etc…) – the organisers are also looking at Daytona Prototypes. GT & Production will run combined races (but separate points) – in most cases, the Production cars will run until the 2 hour mark with the GTs getting an additional hour. Round 1 is this weekend at Silverstone and 44 cars are on the entry list (over 30 of which fall into the GT performance brackets) including Aquilla, Mosler, Rapier, Viper, Porsche, Lambo Gallardo, Ferrari F430, Ginetta, TVR, KTM, Mazda, Lotus and lots more. TV: MotorsTV will show each round on the first Tuesday of every month. |

Britcar has been my favourite UK series for the past few years and if the 44 entries all turn up this weekend it could be a great race, like last years 24 hour race. James Tucker and his team deserve all the support they can get because they have put so much effort onto keeping the series alive since the 'credit crunch' hit. I, for one, will be at Silverstone this weekend.

It is certainly a positive start and I'm looking forward to this weekend's meeting. I have my doubts whether the grid levels can be sustained for some of the 'smaller' circuits such as Castle Combe, but time will tell.

Am really looking forward to this weekend as well - support races are nice and varied too: Intersteps (Nee Young Gun/F-BMW), Minis, Prod Touring cars, Alfa championship then Sunday is Caterhams & Mazdas
In a way, that may be a blessing - places like Brands they would have to split out the Production race, meaning grids of only 20 odd cars |

Despite somehow making a Mosler last 90 minutes on a single tank of fuel (Morcillo told me he did it by 'shifting early' - I think there is more to it than that), Azteca ended up 2nd ahead of the car porn that is the Viper.
Who won? Well it's Britcar & Shorty didn't race so.... MJC Ferrari 430 Gamski/Robinson (not to say they had it easy mind). Good race from what I heard (following a race from the pit lane is a nightmare even on a short track), quite alot of reliability issues through the grid but most teams just knuckled down got it fixed and went back out. Also, Calum Lockie as guest trackside commentator was really entertaining - maybe his car should break more often |

Quite entertaining watching from the marshals post at Farm - though less so in the last hour without the production class and with the attrition rate. We were fairly certain who the top three were by the end of the race, though we'd entirely lost which order they were in. The Viper was disqualified - I think for not doing anything about continued warnings that they were breaking the decibel limit.

Viper DQ - but they are appealing.
Reason was the data logger wasn't recording (although it gave no indication at the time that it had failed). Top 7 across the line all different cars: 1. Gamski/Robinson Ferrari 430 GT2 2. Morcillo/Cintrano Mosler DQ Wilkins/Scott Viper 3. Dhillon/Edwards Ferrari 430 GT3 4. Atkinson/McMeniman Lamboghini Gallardo 5. Barrett/Persson/Shepherd Porsche 997 6. O'Neill/Fletcher Marcos Mantis Special mention to Andy Schulz who did the whole 3 hours (well, 2:50 thanks to the noise curfew) on his own! The Cunninghams in their Seat Leon won Production from Mileham & Guglielmi in their Honda. Seat Sex Drive 5th Gear competition winners (the Girls) finished the race, but not enough laps to be classified. |

was there for the first half. Excellent racing, and I really like the mixture of Production cars in there too, the Honda Jazz for example. Pity about the KTM, Ultima and TVR, all of which were doing so well early on. And it was amusing to see the 993RSR swamped by more lowly machinery!

If you are thinking of going to the Britcar 24 Hour at the end of September (Silverstone), you have just 48 hours to take advantage of this laughably good offer: http://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/2for20/
2 tickets for £20... |

Tickets purchased. Still over 6 months away but can't wait. If anyone hasn't been to the 24 hrs I strongly recommend it.
