Porsche Carrera World Cup 2011
The inaugural Porsche Carrera World Cup will take place on June 25th during the 24h Hour race weekend at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The first press releases from Porsche indicating up to 200 cars participating. While that sounds a bit optimistic it does count as a round in the German, Scandinavian, French and Italian Carrera Cup championships so I guess we should expect a healthy grid size at least. The race will be run in 6 laps around the Nordschleife and divided into two classes; one for the 2.6 litre 2007-2009 model and one for the 3.8 litre 2010-2011 model. This could well be truly epic. |

Also counts as a round of the British championship. Should be epic!

so if it counts as a round of the british series does that mean we could see it on itv4?
or as it wont be part of a btcc round am i being being massively optimistic? the latter i fear. |

Ah, I see! That's good for the grid size.
Does anyone know of the estimated car count in the different championships? The Scandinavian Porsche Carrera Cup has 19 cars entered this year for the A class (the 2010-11 cars) and a further 5 in Class B. Don't know how many of those will enter the World Cup round, but surely most drivers would be willing to sell a kidney or two to take their Cup car to the Nordschleife? |

Too bad the useless Valencia GP is on the same weekend, otherwise we could possibly have added the Porsche Supercup grid to this race... at least a few of them I guess.

Im pretty sure Craig Baird from NZ who is a Aus Carrera Cup champ is entered in this, going by his performances in the RSR at the 24hr he should be right up there.
Hope this is filmed, seeing so many Cup cars in one field would be pretty crazy to watch. |

I'm not sure how many of the Scandinavian Cup drivers who have experience on the Nordschleife. I know the reigning champion Robin Rudholm has entered (and won) at least one VLN endurance race and that Daniel Haglöf has been there a few times in the Mini Challenge.
But there are no less than 6 VLN races scheduled before the World Cup so I'm pretty sure we'll see quite a number of the Porsche drivers getting some laps in before the event. |

so Porsche will help with the car transport or entries? Probably many of the teams don't have the funding to make this trip. But if Porsche is sponsoring and supporting the costs, then we could see something nice.
Quite a few Porsche drivers participate in the 24 hours (I remember seeing Craig Baird in the entry list the past few years) so drivers will already be there in abundance. If Porsche is supporting the costs with cars, etc., it actually makes sense for it to be in Germany (closer to home and all). |

EDIT: Looked on Porsche's website, there it was. http://www.porsche.com/international.../racecalendar/ If there's a live stream for the 24h, I hope there's a live stream for this one as well. |

Tim Harvey!
Is he going to be commentating on the race while he's driving it? |

They are?! KUDOS to them, this week is getting better and better
edit - oh well of course, there isn't a support race for GP this weekend so they're probably contracted to show it. Last edited by Deleted; 22 Jun 2011 at 11:24. |

The mother of all Porsche races is this weekend, and I have no way of seeing it. Sucks being a sports car racing fan in the U.S.
