A Night With Phil Branagan
So... on the Friday before the Sandown 500 kicks off, motorsport journalist and social commentator Phil Branagan is hosting an evening of story telling & sharing with fellow motorsport noter Andrew van Leeuwen as his offsider to proceedings. Link Here Mr Branagan has been in & around Australian and international motorsport for seemingly forever, at Motorsport News as editor, and contributing to Auto Action and other places... should be a good evening Details are at the link.. |

A dialog about things motorsport by a noted specialist is interesting.
No idea what interest/participation that may be generated from it, but its worthy of consideration for the Sandown-bound folk looking perhaps for a different way to spend their Friday nite.. Mr Saward does these kinds of events around the world before the F1 races. Maybe this kind of conversation could be a means of sharing in the future. Actual human interaction & contact making an aliveness for connection. |

I can think plenty of interesting threads that don't get this kind of treatment Joe Saward does do these prior to F1 races but I am yet to see these stuck to the top of the F1 forum. |

This is the first of its kind from this group
Meantime it sits as a 'hot topic' because it is time limited, if a prospective punter doesnt go next Friday, the discussion will be irrelevant No other parties have ever asked the question of me about sharing what they are up to in this conversation space. Promoting the sport in any positive way is a good thing. If someone else has ideas in the space, of course we will look at them. |

So any event, activity topic related thread that is time limited will be viewed and treated consistently in the same way as this example rather than a 'Jobs for the boys' approach?
Just to clarify - is this forum role now to promote motorsport? |

This forum's 'job' is to facilitate a conversation space around motorsport
Whether that is posting here, or attending at circuit. If you think about it, we promote motorsport in every thread about an upcoming race meeting. And we have discovered that physical presence at a racetrack is not mandatory to taking enjoyment from motorsport activities. In this case, I hope the night is successful, that some of our posters take the time to join that conversation, and share their experiences of that event here. If it works in that market, there remains the possibility to bring it to other markets. Indeed the Rev Limiter hosted something similar for a number of years, its outcome being a sharing of experiences around motorsport that trancended forum posting & event viewing. |

Look forward to all future threads being given the same opportunities and interpretation as this one.

I don't understand why everyone is suggesting there's a hidden agenda here.
Sounds like an interesting event. |

Meh the green room seems more like an after party event with people drinking and mingling as opposed to a night with a guest speaker like in the OP. Different horses for courses. |

I do think this is a great idea for an event and worthy of a 'hot topic', hopefully it works, Phil has been in the business for a long time and would be great to listen too
I do wonder if Peter McKay would get the same treatment on this forum if he hosted a night like this though.... |

Mr McKay is a very knowledgeable bloke too, been around the sport and beyond for over 30 years.. so from that angle certainly demands respect. |
