I know its not a race, per se, but it means quite a lot to several Historic Tenthers and always gets talked about on here! So its on the calendar.....

I travelled north yesterday to watch the cars through the early stages of Day 1 as they set off through Northumberland. Couple of sample batches:

To round the day off I took the scenic route home to see the Flying Scotsman itself travelling through the Yorkshire Dales across Ribblehead Viaduct. Unfortunately that's a slight downhill section so the engine wasn't making much smoke and the weather had closed in so a bit of a gloomy shot.

Agreed - thanks for the pics - normally get out to watch or marshal on this but a bit far away from me this year, so enjoyed seeing the pictures.

Many thanks both, glad you enjoyed them. Bit of a struggle finding the route (the published spectator points looked a bit bland) so I managed to find one of the early starters near to Slayley Hall, the start hotel, and followed them until I came across a reasonable location. Fortunately my 'quarry' had read their route book properly!
I did pass a number of spectators who obviously knew the route - insider information? |

Every time I see a picture of the Ribblehead viaduct, I try to imagine what sort of a hoohah there would be if anybody proposed building it there today.

Interesting Mr Bell
Just read your opening post If it's not a race what is it? Many of the tests are speed related. Now last years F1 was a regularity with fuel consumption and tyre ware being the determining feature! Must read the forum more often. |
