April 8th
The Jim Clark Memorial Meeting at Knockhill took place in fine weather. During the lunchtime grid walk for spectators, SMRC Chairman, Sandy Denham, paid tribute to Jim, followed by a lengthy period of applause from the crowd. Competing in his first event at the circuit, Robert Bremner, AC Cobra, was fastest qualifier and winner of both races. He was followed each time by the Rover SD1 of John Kinmond, who provided great entertainment with sideways driving. Raymond Boyd, Porsche 911, was third in each race. Race one had Jimmy Crow, Escort RS2000, in fourth place, Alastair Baptie, Fiat X1/9 and Mario Ferrari, Alfasud Sprint, close behind. Andy Graham, Triumph TR7V8, retired from race one but completed race two in fourth place, Baptie fifth and Crow sixth. A new class for 2018, MK II Fiesta XR2, had three entries, Martin Ramsay, Duncan Fox and Duncan O’Neill, Ramsay winning the class in both races. First time out for Craig Houston, Lotus Excel – unfortunately his day ended after qualifying, due to engine problems. Next event is on May6th (anti-clockwise). Photos attached: |

August 4th and 5th
Three excellent races, all won by Tommy Gilmartin (Morgan +8) from Raymond Boyd (Porsche 911 Turbo). Andy Graham (TR7V8) took third on two occasions, Bruce Mitchell (Lotus Europa) secured third in the second race. Ian Blacklin (Ford Capri) and Jimmy Crow (Escort) entertained the crowd with marvellous close racing, swapping places many times in the third race. Blacklin just in front the finish, however Crow was ahead at the end of races one and two. Several drivers posted personal best times, including Martin Ramsay (XR2), Andy Walker (Mallock), William Conway (Mini) and Michael Longstaffe (MG Midget). Visitors included Neil McKay, making his annual trip with his Mini Cooper, Patrick Jack, MGB V8 and Roderick Jack, Lotus Elan. Cars carried stickers in memory of Mike Toye, a stalwart of the championship since its’ beginning, working on the many TR7s which appeared over the years and assisting other competitors. Photos: |

16th September
First time out on the reverse direction circuit was successful for Morgan driver, Andy Smith, winning a ‘wet’ race one by half a second from Raymond Boyd in a Porsche 911. Fastest qualifier, John Kinmond, was third in a Rover SD1. An excellent weekend for Alfasud driver Mario Ferrari, fourth in race one and fifth in Race two after an epic battle with Stuart Thorburn, Ford Escort Twin Cam. Also a fine weekend for Bruce Mitchell, Lotus Europa, fifth in race one and third place in race two. Boyd and Smith swapped places in race two, held in dry conditions, the gap between these drivers was less than half a second at the end. Championship leader, Alistair Baptie, was sixth in the first race one and fourth in the second. With two races to go, on 7th October, Messrs. Baptie, Boyd, Ferrari and Ford Escort driver, Jimmy Crow, all have a chance of becoming 2018 champion. Photos attached: |
