[VASC18R17R18] Watpac Townsville 400, 6-8 July
A great top end venue
In the sun, almost in the tropics Cars have popped back to Melbourne and Gold Coast since Darwin, or come across directly from Darwin Strong crowd & local support Plenty of on track action. Who will be successful here? Erebus seems to be creeping up on it lately... |

WAU have a good reputation up there and should figure prominently. PRA had all four cars in the Sunday Top Ten Shootout last year but zero chance of that this year with their weakened driver line up. Other than that DJRTP and 888 (the usual suspects) will figure strongly.

Impossible to argue. Some sponsors are coming towards the end of their deals aren't they? The Mustang might be a godsend at Tickford to keep those sponsors happy.

Its not just a problem with the 56 (maybe he should've had a year in the Kuhmo Series after all). It really is across the whole team who have dropped the ball this year. Hopefully the Mustang turns things around although no doubt the engineering team will be flat out with that at the moment. Its quite probable that creating the Mustang is distracting enough to affect the teams performance this year.

We know Stanaway has the talent, we've seen him in a couple of remarkable drives in difficult conditions.
However he now has to set the car up instead of getting into a car that's been set up. Maybe it is him, maybe it is his engineering support. We've certainly seen guys who have shown good strength in the enduros but never made it as full time drivers. Dean Canto, David Wall, Warren Luff are all examples and there are others... Perhaps Larry Perkins... |

Makes you wonder about the other drivers in the team and the team itself if there is a dependency on a new driver to the category to set up the car fully.
Yes, margins down the grid in Supercar are very small so it doesn't take much to slide back a few rows, yes the cars are unusual in their behaviour, yes the quality and competitive level of the drivers / teams in this series is high but with three established drivers in the team, Mr Stanaway should be getting a car with at least a decent / consistent baseline setup. I can't imagine that Mr Bright was setting up the others' cars for them so we're left with surmising that the problems this year are more likely within the team operations. |

Tickford cars off the pace in P2. You never know what tyres people are using but some people will do a Q simulation.

(Agree re tyres though, although one would have thought at least one Tickford car would take a run on greens for the data and set up help for qualy up next.) |

The #1 had some serious pace when it was required!
Mr Le Brocq in the walk was unfortunate And Mr Stanaway purposely torching the rears by driving sprintcar-style borders on bloody stupid too. |

Stanaway was hilarious. If your team puts the wrong tyres on and you're losing by miles anyway then why not give the crowd and sponsors some entertainment.

So he can come out tomorrow and break an axle or gearbox on the start line because they were over stressed the day before?

It wouldn't exactly matter. He'll be coming home in the 20s either way.

What the hell is wrong that blond piece in the pit lane? Saturday after the race she bails up Winterbottom and asked him what the story was with the double stacking, which I thought he answered well and truthfully. Today during qualifying she bails up Tim Edwards and asks him exactly the same questions!! Does she think Winterbottom was lying? Stupid *****!! If you're not going to belief what someone tells you, don't bother asking them and wasting their time!! Then she tries to make a big deal out of Stanaway doing a bit of drifting, which Tim shut her right down on. Please Willy D, retire to some far flung place and take your Barbie Doll with you!!!
Now after qualifying she's bailed up Richie and asked him about the drifting!?! Doesn't she believe Tim Edwards either? The way she asks the questions comes across as if she's trying to pit people against each other and cause trouble when in reality there's nothing there at all. Stupid **** clutching at straws trying to make something out of nothing. Needs to be shown the door asap Last edited by JAFA851; 8 Jul 2018 at 02:05. |
