Mika doing Senna
..sorry about the title.
Does anyone have any info on what Senna said in defense of being outqualified by Mika back in 1993 and Sennas opinion on Mika??? It would be quite interesting to me as I am bigg Hakkfan. I wasnt really into F1 then and quite young. Mika ran him close in qualifying at everyrace they did as teammates but wasnt as quick in racetrim. Did Mika really say "it takes guts Ayrton!" to senna when asked by AS why Mika was so much faster than AS in fast corner at Estoril??? I thought Senna was the gutsiest guy out there... hope sumone can help me... |

I don't have a direct quote to show Senna's response to Estoril's qualifying but I do think that he thought quite highly of Mika. He was certainly the first person to compliment Mika after the session was over. The hoo-ha came later with lots of jokes about guts and balls Jo Ramirez said: "When he beat the Big Man, Ayrton certainly wasn't amused. There were even a few remarks like, 'Oh yes, and how many Grand Prixs have you won?' when they were exchanging information in the de-briefs. But I think Senna was impressed".
On a personal note, Ayrton once described Mika as a "soulful" character. Hope that helps. |

Yes, but Senna redressed the balance a soon as the green came out. He was just gone and Mika couldn't keep up. But it was a wake up for Senna, that's for sure.
After Estoril, he dominated the wet Japanes GP, and literally waltzed away from pole in Adelaide to utterly crush arch-nemisis Prost in their last GP together. I think with the championship lost, Senna may have lost a little focus and maybe even motivation. Senna was at the very end of a long and uncompetitive year in a car not worthy of what he achieved with it. He had ceded his championship to the worst possible person. Mika, meanwhile, had everything to prove and everything to gain. |
