So who will you follow ?

Ok so season 2002 is almost upon us so why not spill the beans and tells us who you will be following in season 2002.

Firstly tell us your fav driver and then who you think will win the championship (if its not your fav driver)

Ok I will start.
I will be following Buddy Lazier this year again , i think he is awesome and after what he did back at Indy in 96 I think he deserves a medal , so I will be following him closely this year and yes i think he will go close to winning the championship as well if he doesnt he should be right up the pointy end.

so for me Buddy lazier is the man in 2002

P.S I will also be following Johnny herbert too if he manages to land some sort of drive.

OK folks over to you

It will be interesting to say the least. How fast can Penske come to terms with the new package? Hornish has established himself as the fastest and most consistent racer in the League. He finished every race last year. Greg Ray is extremely fast, but usually has a big crash that ends his chances. I also expect Kelley Racing to field two good cars this year.I think Cheever has been long past his expiration date, but his new teammate could be a dark horse challenger.

I think it will come down to a battle with deFerran (experience and excellent team) versus Hornish (speed and intelligent consistency).

Buddy is my favorite just because he is such a good guy personally. That and I don't think anyone has ever had more guts, ever. But I saw something in Jacques last year that made me really sit up and pay attention. I think he is going to really have a great season and I picked him to win the 500 as early as last September. You have to really be confident to stick your neck out that early, but I really believe Jacques is something special.

I plan to follow local (Michigan) boy Robbie Buhl. I'd like to see an Infiniti team do well, and he showed he could run with the big guys at Indy.

Buddy Lazier, also I like Team Penske, Roger is a true gentleman, in fact the last honourable one left in OW racing!

If Gil DeFerran puts in performances like the one in England last year, combined with Penske preparation, he could be the favorite to take it all.

With the new guys from CART and the more experienced IRL regulars, it should be a great season no matter who wins!!!

I've already got my Fontana tickets so let the racing begin.

I'm with KC, but I fear what Jerry has said about the Penske operation may just push Gil over the line.

My favourite driver? Anybody who's ever called Roger Penske "boss". And although Gil's certainly delivered in recent years, I think Helio's gonna rise to the challenge this year. Needless to say, I'll be cheering quite loudly for Gil, and also for Al Jr. (Hey, he's a Penkse-alumni). Also gotta root for the Canadians, in this case Goodyear. My prediction for the championship must lay solely on Helio.

Yes...Finally a woman in motorsport that is actually there because she is damm quick. She was very im pressive in Irl and i would expect her to do well in the INDY500 this year , as this year she knows exactly what shes got to do.

Sorry MacDaddy, there won't be any rooting for Scott Goodyear this year as he will be in the broadcast booth with Paul Page all year long.

Sarah Fisher's chances for any seat time this season are looking pretty bleak as well without any sponsorship lined up.

I'll be following Gil deFerran, Jacques Lazier, and Sam Hornish.

Thanx, SevenGrain. Although suspicious that Little Al may not have a ride lined up, I was unaware about Goodyear. And I too hope that Sarah can run the season.

Alex Barron - one of the good guys. At the Gold Coast in 2000 my then 11 year old was chasing autographs and nearly got bowled over by a "high profile driver". He didn't even turn around but Alex saw what happened, took his visor off, signed it and gave it to my son. He now has a fan for life - and after a couple of good drives in CART deserves a break. But I think deFerran will win.

From what I understand Al Unemployed Jr. is still looking. He offered Eddie Cheever 1.5 million to "buy" a ride, but Cheever decided to go with Tomas Scheckter.

Greg Ray also "bought" his ride at Kelley racing this season. It just goes to show how competitive and cash-orientated these things have become.

I would have to go with Johnny Rutherford or Tom Sneva......oh I guess there retired.(I'm sure they could still show these kids how to do it!) How about that other old geezer Eddie Cheever. He always seems to get "something" caught in shifter on pole day but he is wicked fast on race day.(and Red Bull is such a cool sponsor...try it with vodka).

Greg Ray's promised sponsorship dollars for Tom Kelley never materalized, so it looks as if Ray is now the one who will "race for food"
