V8s at Night

I was lucky enough to be down the Gold Coast last night, high up on the 27th floor of a 4.5 star hotel, looking over most of the Indy track.

Sipping some kinda alcoholic beverage, we watched the Gold Coast Hoons below, doing their best to tear up the road surface. Then it dawned on me- the V8s can have their night race at Indy time! (kinda like the GTP/Nations Cup at Adelaide)

It makes a lot of sense.

So we've figured out there is going to be a bit of down time, do it at dusk when everyone is tanked, and nobody will notice. The track is fair well lit already as it uses a fair few major roads in the area. Plus because it is such a major event, additional floodlighting etc can easily be absorbed. (eg, you'd stick extra lights near the Tv cameras etc, like they did at Eastern Creek at 1996). It could be a fairly long race, say an hour and a half (although, could a V8 do that distance on the Gold Coast without exploding/writing itself off?) and the fans would love it. Imagine the glowing disc, exhausts etc- fantastic!

Your thoughts?

Yeah...it'd make some nice wrecks because if someone spears off at one of the first two chicanes, then the next car through won't see them in time.

Night races sound great.....dunno why the BTCC scrapped them for this year ???

But yeah, certainly an interesting thought.

At least then they would have a better chance of attracting a crowd at night, or getting away with a false crowd figure, honestly how many people do they expect to turn up at Eastern Creek on a saturday night at the end of april.
