heldring should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
england is great, but where is the 24 hour race ?

hello motor sport fans of le mans, sportscar racing or formula one of the
sixties and seventies,

here is heldring, 51 years of age.
the reason of life is le mans, do you agree ?
then you are on the right frequency !
the esses, tertre rouge, ligne droite des hunaudieres, mulsanne,
indianapolis, arnage, the porsche curves, maison blanche....
you can compare this with music of ludwig von beethoven !
life is le mans, the time before and after it is just waiting !
are you as sick as I am ?
well, don't waist your time and get in !
england is great, but where is the 24 hour race ?
dogs, cats, sports, music, racing tracks, england has it all !
only the girls, they are better looking at in holland.
the only exception.
you only live once, enlarge your life in getting in contact with a motor
racing full from the netherlands !
it will be big fun, for sure !
hope to meet you in the near future !
so long, heldring

Quite right.... Where the hell is our 24 hour race??

It strikes me that no one in the UK could arrange a slightly inhebriated gathering in a brewery let alone a 24 hour event

problem with the uk is that the only circuits that could really run for 24 hours are snet and silverstone and I for on would't enjoy droning around them for that long, what we lack in fact is a spa, a nurburgring or a Le mans. There is one place though, needs some trees and resurfacing but its 4.5 miles long...

Well they used to have a 24hr race in the UK, it was the Wilhire race at Snetterton - but it was not for sportscar, it was for production cars -shame

Welcome Heldring! As first posts go, that really takes some beating! Anyone who writes

"the reason of life is le mans, do you agree?"

and does it in rhyme as well is a definite winner in my book!

Who knows, the Wilhire may become a 24hr event again. The thing is, the British GT Championship is by comparison a sprint series. These teams aren't prepared for an endurance event; they'd have to go to some lengths to prepare a real enduro car on top of their regular ch'ship schedule (as we have seen this year, some teams can't even afford that so the no. of entries is down). A purely national 24hr event can't be a GT only affair, it would have to include national touring car and sportscar (e.g. Radical) teams as well. An international event can only work in conjunction with a bigger series, e.g. FIA GT or the ALMS.
That's just my two eurocents worth...

What about Corby? Lighting up Rockingham'd be comparatively easy to a proper road course, with everything being packed in so close.

Perhaps a British GT/BTCC joint event? Would be fun, but probably wishful thinking.

God, even Ireland (racing at Mondello Park) manages a 24 hour 2CV race! But I think the 2CV's are not holding the event at Mondello anymore, maybe this will be the UK's first 24 hour race??

Hm... - in a country with so many fine road courses, wouldn't it be a shame to have such an event be relegated to a roval.
The BTCC cars are even more all-out sprint machines than the GTs; I don't see anyone build an enduro BTCC car for just one race. And, even if they'd last they wouldn't be competitive against the GTs. A DTM car maybe, but never a 2l tourer.

We already have a 24hr race, it is just run in France! Saves us leaving empty beer bottles all over our countryside.

Rockingham would be a no-no.

It has serious noise restrictions - Staggering really there seems to be little other than factories for at least a mile in every direction!

...except for Gretton village just behind Turn 3!

When Rockingham pulls in 40+ ASCARs and fills the grandstands every race weekend they will have some clout locally. Until then, they are in the same boat as every other UK circuit with nimby neighbours.

It's all a bit mad as only 10+ years ago the place was a running steelworks and I'm sure that wasn't exactly silent.

As for a 24h race, we have two within easy travelling distance. Le Mans and Spa.

Agreed, a "major" GT event in the UK is needed where we can invite overseas teams and have 30-40 car grids. How about reviving something like the Tourist Trophy, Empire Trophy, Gold Cup, etc...? Do a promo on it. Free entry for spectators...

Better yet, find a sponsor and make it a money race. Winner gets a grand cash prize. That should draw some serious entries!
...and it's not going to happen in this world.

The Toca shoot out was a winner takes all race, although not in the same frame as a sportscar race, but these type of races are good for the fans, get a few big names and people will come in droves and it worked.

But for a good sportscar race especially a 24hr race we need a good long circuit.

I prupose we move Silverstone to the Midlands and stick it on the end of the Melbourne loop at Donington, that would make a great track a mix of Spa and Le Mans, good straights, corners and some great natural viewing areas?

Emagine 50 or so sportscars coming down the craner curves, would'nt that be brilliant.

Would it be feasible to run cars over the Isle of Man TT course? That would be a way of running a British 24 hour race.
