F3 winter series
As some of you might have read in Autosport - there's gonna be a british F3 winter mini series - so far likely to be Silverstone (Nov 9th) and Donnington (?). What a great idea and a sneak preview of who might be signing to who next year.

I'll be there with my mittens and woolly hat!
That's if I don't get invited to Macau... |

Excellent! I was thinking it'd be great to have an F3 winter series, but thought that Macau would have stopped it from happening.
How are all teams going to compete if their cars have to be shipped out? Last edited by Paul Rayner; 29 Aug 2002 at 22:55. |

I dunno, seems rather dubious because of the transport issues to Macau

I really hope it takes off because things like this often get suggested in August/September and then when there are only 3 or 4 entries the whole thing gets cancelled.
I don't know about the Macau/Korea logistics but wouldn't it sound more sensible if it's the Scholarship cars that are run rather than the Championship class? Although how many of the British teams do actually go to Macau only the top few. And remember Carlin has a fleet of F3 cars so it could field drivers wherever.... But it sounds a bit like a Midlands F3 championship at the moment - couldn't they spread it around a bit!! Hope the TV stations pick it up because I know I can't make it! |

Wouldn't it be good if all the Winter championships ran together ? or is that the plan?

what a great idea. It doesnt matter if the bigger teams will be in Macau , im sure it will be very good to have 2 rounds on winter series F3 .

I don't think a couple of teams not showing will make much difference. at least if Carlin don't show, it'll be a more even championship!
the only bummer could be that untalented rich kids may put up the money for a couple of races. |

then again, it depends what's more important to the teams - Macau and korea or trying out new drivers on circuits they may be racing on next season????? maybe more teams will enter the winter series - it'd be cheaper anyway.

Because Brands is too far South!
Seriously though, a Winter Series can only be a couple of meetings, so some tracks have to miss out. Why no round at Oulton, Thruxton, Rockingham? Last year the Formula Renault Winter Series was held at Rockingham and Donington, this year Brands Indy has replaced Rockingham, which I think is a shame, because Brands Indy is a naff circuit for overtaking in slicks and wing cars. I doubt there'll be any TV coverage. |

Rockingham has 2nd/3rd Nov pencilled in for a Winter Series meeting but their web site doesn't say what's running.
FRenault Winter Series was great fun last year. It was warmer than some of the summer meetings! |

Hi,
It's been detailed to me as Scholarship class cars (as a class A) and ARP cars (as class B) due to the Championship cars being at Macau. I have this from one of the teams - the series being created to give them something to do as they don't get to go to Macau. I know Autosport are saying Champ class mid gridders will be in too, but as far as I know it's scholarship and ARP only.. unless that's just a sales pitch. Anyone know any more? |
