It's no substitute for Spa.

Where did you hear that? Give me a source. Its good news, I always thought Estoril produced good races, although they have stuffed the track up a bit since then.

Don't be fooled. The track has been destroyed like every other great track - the very fast turn 1 is now a sharp, slow and BORING right-hander.
That's why they race MotoGP there now. |

Estoril is back?
Is this in place of Spa? I thought that F1 was just going to have 16 races next year if Spa was gone . Should it be back? Well I'd forgot they'd changed it until you reminded me f1manoz. The new corner, is it second gear. Oh how I love second gear corners Estoril has been mentioned quite a few times for inclusion into the calendar. Almost since immediatelty after it was removed in 1996. |

Geez....I just went to e-tracks and what the hell have they done to the first two corners? When did that happen? And that extra chichane out the back? God the track wasn't that great to start with...good but not great and then they go and make those mods. I'm happy it's not going to be back!

Estoril's current layout is better suited to Moto GP than F1, and no European circuit can hope to come close to Spa. All the same, it would be ncie if they filled the gap in the schedule, and anything will seem good afte rthe Hungaroring. Thank God August is CART's busiest time, so we can see some actual racing in the summer.

Estoril was ruined too. It's not the circuit of 1996... where we saw the Great Jacques pulling a pass on the outside of MS...

Great drive that day by Jacques. I say he found the absolute limit of his ability that day, as he reeled in his teammate Damon from half a minute down. Rather like Fangio at Nurburgring '57. |

Estoril '96

A quote from Jonathan Palmer, who called the race along with Murray Walker: "That overtaking manoeuvre was one of the most outstanding I have ever seen." Another point I'd like to add is that this was one of the races in which Villeneuve didn't have to spend much of his sessions learning the track. As I'm sure you are aware of the fact that Villeneuve and Damon Hill had many days of testing at Estoril, due to the Williams team testing there quite frequently before the season started. Farc, If I had my choice between Estoril and Jerez I'd have to race held at Jerez.I have good memories of both. Tye |

Estoril was ruined when they made the stupid tight hairpin thats just before the last turn.
Take the track back to how that part of the track was in 1993 and F1 would have a good race. |

How can they ruin circuits? Can't the people see they have completely ruined any challenge? Jeez is ****ess me off when circuits are carved up like this.
Estoril was safe. Why did they cut it up? Idiots. |

Michael pulled an incredible passing manoeuvre out of the sleeve on Damon Hill at Estoroil. I think it was in 1995(or 1994?) . It's one of my favourite (overtakings). The first corner was very good - I take it in sixth gear on my F1 simulator. But it's better to have 17 than 16 races. Then Ferrari can take more victories.

I have noticed that stupid philosophy too. How someone can blame a track when it all happens because of people? Jim Clark, for example, died because of people's mistake and not "because of the evil track" like I read in some stupid archives. That way of thinking and turning people to track-bashers has killed some of the best tracks in F1. As for Estoril, what if they did it because of the race in 1996? It was, like, too interesting. I mean, someone did the impossible and since everyone of creme de la creme in F1 hates him.... I am in a really bad mood today, really. Last edited by Miss Hardt; 18 Nov 2002 at 22:54. |

Maybe the real reason is because sponsors of teams want slow corners all over the tracks so the cameras can show their logos more clearly?
