I read an article in a newspaper that General Motors may buy the Italian car company Fiat next year. Can Ferrari be under the GM fold???

Re: GM to buy Fiat??
Quote:
There is "Fiat Group", that is a holding company that owns, or at least has a controlling share in a numbers of companies, including "Fiat Auto" (which builds Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo cars), "Magneti Marelli" (automotive electronics), "Ferrari" (Ferrari and Maserati) and several others including a truck division whose name I can't remember. The one that GM might buy is "Fiat Auto", so Ferrari would appear to be safe from the clutcles of GM. As for the future of the Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo marques, it's anyones guess what could happen to them. As for the percentages, I thought GM only owned 20% of Fiat? http://wardsauto.com/ar/transportation_fiat_gm_meeting/ Last edited by alfasud; 9 Mar 2003 at 10:46. |

It's an old rumor, and GM doesn't want to buy Fiat, they don't see any profit in it.

Ferrari and Maserati are not part of the deal. The origibnal deal was 20% of Fiat Auto for 5% of GM, with an option for GM to buy more. Fiat auto is in so much trouble that they sold off the 5% of GM to a bank about 2 months ago, for around half of what it was worth on the open market when the trade was made about 3 years ago..
