Webber to McLaren

I heard a rumour of Webber swapping DC in 2004, anyone else heard anything to this effect

nuh, that's not right.

Latest information is its Webber to Williams in 04, Ferrari in 05 and McLaren in 06.

Just ignore what Mark categorically said about driving for Jag in 04, purely a negotiation ploy to ensure that his contract specifies first dibs at the cake trolley at lunch.

Jag would be mad to let him go. So I don't think they will.

And, I think McClaren will like to hang onto DC for 04 as number 2 driver to Kimi cos it worked with Mika. Ron may not think that Kimi is ready for that kind of challenge yet.

What, the challenge of mighty Mark, the team-mate destroyer? I think Kimi would cope - but if you mean clear team leadership withput DC's setup and testing support, I couldn't agree more (and so apparently does Ron Dennis). Maybe in 05

Hey as Jag says "its a buyers market" and if Mclaren wont the man, Jag will accept resonable offers, its all about the money

Didn't Webber burn some bridges with Mercedes over the amazing flying LeMans car fiasco?

That was far from Webbers fault, esp as somone else did exactly the same thing. Do theose bridges count for much when chellenging for a WDC and you see that Webber has the goods to go all the way? i think not.

I don't think the issue was the actual looping of the car, but the way Mercedes handled it within the team and in the press - hence some reports have it that forthright views were exchanged between Webber and Merc personel (and too right) Whether this means anything now is hard to know, but perhaps it is instructive that it wasn't Mercedes that financed Mark into F1, but Renault...

I assume that Peter Dumbreck wouldn't get a drive at McLaren then?

I'm not saying that it would stop a deal being done, just raising it for discussion.

Didn't Peter only flip once? Once is forgivable, twice is just careless...

Yeahhh but it was a BIG flip.

It's a good point you made though, as it could be a factor. Most teams wouldn't want to employ drivers who criticised them. Errrr except when McLaren employed Mansell...

talk about backflips - Ron Dennis employing Nigel Mansell!

I'll bet that was done through gritted teeth!

Who made him do that? To say they didn't get on would be an understatement.

Haha what a debacle that was. Putting a former star in a car that is as awful as that one was isn't a great investment.

you're right - when the car is bad, better to get somebody who is hungry and desperate to please. They'll put up with all manner of cr@p and buy you some time to fix it - and if the results don't come, you can always blame the driver.

I believe that if either Williams or McLaren desperately wanted Webber & were prepared to pay Jaguar enough to release him Jaguar would let him go. I wouldn't say with any degree of certainty that Webber will definately drive for Jaguar in 2004.

To make life simple, JPM should go to McLaren, and Webber to Williams.

There is no point of anyone with any remote bit of talent going to Ferarri, as you are not allowed to beat Michael. Should just have someone like Yoong there.
