SJ Spode should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
New third driver rules a stage closer

www.worldrallynews.com are reporting that the FIA World Rally Championship Commission is believed to have put foward the rumored new driver nomination rules. These will permit each manufacturer to select two drivers freely, but specify that third drivers should not have finished in the top three on a World Championship rally in the past three years.

The proposal still has to be discussed by the FIA’s executive body, the World Council.

Not having won a rally was bad enough, but not been in the top three !!!! Expect complaints from the French teams.

I agree with the new ruling as it will spread out the best talent.

Two top drivers and up and coming driver seems pretty good to me. Ford will reap the benefits of there youth policy in 2004.

So are we going to see drivers trying desperately to finish fourth or lower?

Cant be many other sports that put restictions on particapints like this.Lets face it,the younger generation third driver will have to have a healthy financial backing.Id like to ask DR where are the 2 new teams he stated were ready to join the WRC.That would spread the drivers round a bit more.Does any viewer know the identity of these teams?I think 1 is Suzuki...

A negative response from some of the drivers

“I don’t think there’s a major problem. The problem was Peugeot putting specialist drivers in for certain rallies,” said Colin McRae, referring to the French concern’s strategy of switching its third car between Gilles Panizzi and Harri Rovanpera. “The way to stop that was to say you nominate three drivers at the start of the year. They always go and over-complicate things and it backfires on them. If I was a team manager, I wouldn’t want to pick around that situation. There’s an absolutely simple solution.”

“That is bad news. I don’t really understand why it is necessary to do this,” Rovanpera commented.

This is absolutely retarded.

But it make much more sense than using accessible cars, right? Can't have any of those wildcard entries making the works teams look bad.
