Williams and Monaco
Why is it that Williams never seem to do well at Monaco?
Its now 20 years since they last won there (Keke Rosberg in the Williams FW08C in 1983). This year they don't even stand a chance, considering how bad the FW25 is. |

the FW25 is improving...
But, i reckon one DNF, the other 7th or 8th. So as an average, i put Non-Points finish |

Juan will shine in qualifying......then his car will fail him in the race. It's sad, but very likely.

The FW25 isn't a terrible car, it isn't as good as Ferrari, but it isn't a bad car. To have lead in Austria shows the car has some speed in it, even if the track did suit the car.
Im thinking Canada and Monza may be Williams' few chances this year of a win. |

Yes it is 20 years since Williams last won Monaco but they should have won several times since. Mansell/1987, Mansell/1992 and Hill/1996 for example.
They could end that run this year but it seems a long shot. |

without retirement to the ferraris, renaults and mclarens i cant see them finishing much higher that 7th, if montoya can go well in qualifying though there is a remote chance but the likelyhood is that he will retire . so Montoya DNF, Ralf 10th.

But if JPM can get into the top 3 or 4 after quals, then it is very difficult to pass- I don't hold a lot of hope but you can't rule it out either.
Ralf- well he'll solidly run in about 6th or 7th. |

JPM lost his P1 cause DC-McLaren have better LC, and runner-up position was in his bag until the engine blew. Ralf? He got podium. Monaco 2002.
So, I can still see a chance to win. Its depends qualifying result. |

Motoya might easily have won 2002 if he could have run a few laps longer than DC - up to the point that his engine troubles started he was right with him. Indeed, it was only because of JPM's engine trouble that Schumacher got held far enough back to not take DC in the stops too.
So - the FW24 got a pole and a race pace as good as the eventual winner, and the FW25 is more nimble with a shorter wheelbase and is better on its tyres... I don't see why it won't be competitive again. Of course this year there are several other strong contenders, but of those I'd only truly rate Renault. I'd be surprised if either Jenson or Jacques overturn their previous form at this circuit - Jacques in particular has never looked at home around the streets. Webber might spring a surprise - hope so, he's one of my bets. |

I think they may get a points finish but i don't think they'll compete for a podium.

From what I've read, Rosberg's win was a little lucky. They were still using the increasingly outdated NA Ford engine, which obviously wasn't a big problem at Monaco,a dn Keke qualified it 6th. Int he race, the weather was questionable, and Keke pitted early, and found himself much faster than the rest, on the right tyre, and pulled away.
As for this year, I don't think the car will suit the track. Renault should be comfortably ahead, and BAR/Jaguar maybe as well, so they're in for a struggle. Lower points are all they can expect barring reliability issues or driver errors up front. |

Well first and third in qualifying isn't too bad I guess. I think tomorrow will just be another Monaco where it just all goes wrong for them AGAIN.
Was the other Williams win at Monaco (1980) a lucky one? |

Was it Jones who won in '80?
***** Anyway. I hope to hell th at they get unlucky, but at the perfect point for Ferrari... However, Ralfy boy to be slower than expected and hold the rest up so that Michael and Rubens are not ****ed over too much by 5th and 7th would be ideal. Hrrmm. We'll see. |

Im hoping for a Ralf win - especially after his blistering pace in qualifying..the key is the start and the first stops..I'll go with Ralf!

I reckon Ralf could win - if he gets away well then he'll be in with a good chance during the pitstops. GO RALF!!!
