So whats Billy Asaro really driving? All the results list him as Dallara, but my eyes tell me Lola.

as of how many races ago? I saw him at Croft in an all black Dallara but the last few races it looks like he's in a white Lola with black wings and some slight blue accents

Yep its a Dallara.
He ran the Dallara at Croft and then switched to the Lola-Dome for Knockhill/Silverstone after Adam Carroll departed. They tested the Dome at Croft and Snetterton last week before deciding to freeze the development on that and concentrate on getting Billy to the front in the Dallara so yes he'll be out in a F303 |

yes but how many years has he been in f3 now? isn't it about time, considering the car he's got and the team, that he won the championship?
race 2 result = |

VDM is in his second year of F3, and considering the depth of field, he is doing a superb job. His car is no doubt a good one, but Carlin outclass all the others in the field. For instance, there is no doubt that Menu have as a good a car as any, if not better. F3 is considered by many to be a two year effort, and if VDM wins the championship it will be on merit, and not down to more experience than anyone else and a superior car. But, that is just my opinion......I could be wrong.

To amend my previous post, I meant to say that Carlin's cars DO NOT outclass all of the cars in the F3 field. Pardon the brain fade, I had a long day!

So im not the only one kinda surprised by VDM? He's a good guy but he seemed kinda quiet and not allways the fastest guy in Fords and his first year of F3, but there he is Festival Winner and now Brit F3 points runaway. A head scratcher indeed.

Remember Alan VDM only started karting when he was 16, not before he could walk like some of his rivals, and until he joined Carlin for F3 in 2002 he was also doing a full time job and commuting from Holland.
He is very talented and gets the job done quietly but effectively. People who have known him since he started in FFord with FGR have always known Alan was capable of been very succesful. |

Danny Watts should have scored points in race 1, cos after he threw the lead away by spinning at Camp, he tried a kamikaze move round the outside at Quarry whilst moving through the lower order, removing a corner of the car. Bit more patience required. In saying that, he had a brilliant drive in race 2.

So what exactly is wrong with the Lola-Dome? I know every man and his dog are in Dallara's but I keep remembering the success of Dallara in F1 and cringing....
Isnt anyone game to test a new chassis? I know Will Power escaped the Ralt thing.... |

Easy to ask, less to answer!
Maybe the main reason is that Dallara, despite being longitme monopolistic, have always designed an optimized car, never weakening efforts to give the best. When they entered F3, the situation was different, and they could grant themselves a huge differential advantage, who let them conquer the global market. Thus they got resources to invest to keep dominant. Lola-dome: such a lack of success should surprise, as they actually copied the Dallara chassis (Dome already were Dallara customers). But having placed 6-7 cars (most of them FOC I think) doesn't let them get the developement they need. Moreover, a well-backed driver never wants to risk a new car when the present one is good. Thus it's just the small/weak teams who accept to risk, 'cos they're attracted by the idea of a chassis FOC. Unfortunately such teams are not very stable, as it happened to Sweeney, and their problems strenghten the difficulties of Lola-Dome to find an acceptable developement path. Last, but not least, Dallara, being worlwide dominant, have structured an effective commercial net to provide spare parts, as well as techinical advice. When you have 2 cars in Itraly, 1 in England and 4 in japan, what do you think you can organise? All these reasons obviously carry squads to prefer Dallara. |
