MichaelH should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
BTCC records.....

This is a question I've been wondering about for a while...

In the 2001 BTCC season sprint races, the Touring Class runners were routinely pipped for outright victory by the production class runners such as Roger Moen and Simon Harrison. Looking back, do these artificial "wins" count as proper, official overall BTCC race victories? Or does the Touring class winner claim the event win as well even if they "finished second" behind a production car?

I know it's a bit confusing, but any ideas?

I know it's hardly an official source of results but the ITV shows in 2002 often showed Proddie drivers as the overall winners of the previous year. I would have thought it was just the top tourer because technically they are not racing in the same championship/race, just on the same track.

It would be because of the 1 lap,-15 second lead that the proddy drivers had at the start of the sprints. As it was the same race, if the production driver took the chequered flag, they won the race. The points were scored differently, and it's different championship - but it was still an overall winner from the same race.
If that makes any sense - I know what I'm on about :

the whole 2001 ruling was daft as spectators hadn't a clue of who was where
