steve nielsen should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Rumours have it that Minardi will get Supertec engines, in return Flavio B. wants Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso to drive for them, Webber is the Benetton testdriver, Alonso has Briatore as manager. Fosters, MCI worldcom and Leaseplan are rumoured to be the sponsors.

Could this be true??

Well, I hope it's true. I certainly hope Alonso gets into F1. He's awesome.

Bullamakanka

Where on earth did you hear this load of bullamakanka? This sounds suspiciously like the jokes that we have seen posted here from time to time!! Verify your assumptions or concede loss of believability!!

This goes along with an idea I had some time ago (when I read the post about 4 minardis).

Basically what I thought was that one of the larger teams could buy Minardi and then run as 2, 2-car teams, one being a sort of "test" team which would run development parts at races.

Alonso took part in todays test, driving a Benetton.

He finished the day 8th fastest with just the Prosts behind, with a time of 1.23.010 and covered 30 laps of the Barcelona circuit.

Unfortunately, this is outlawed in the F1 rules. Last team to try was Benetton though, thanks to Briatore's then ownership of Ligier.

Who is this Alonso fellow? What does he race? Can anyone tell me, coz I am interested to know who he is.

From Australian media reports from Motorsport magazine and AutoAction, Webber has confirmed he is lined up for Benetton testing only. And says he feels that this may be his one and only chance to make it in F1.

Furthemore, Fisi has damaged his leg, so Webber will probably do his testing too. and maybe race Fisi's car if Fisi isn't fixed in time - unlikely though.

Dream driver line-up: Jenson Button and Mark Webber

(....And Montoya!)

I predict Montoya champion in 2001!

Alonso is the current hot property in Formula 3000. He won the final round of the series at Spa in utterly dominant fashion, having threatened earlier in the season to do so. He's either 19 or 20 and has previously enjoyed great success in Open Fortuna by Nissan in Spain. Ferrari are rumoured to have offered him a test contract.

Thanks for the speedy reply Speed Demon I was starting to think I was the only one logged on at the moment.

Wow this Alonso sounds great, I never knew Ferarri had done this. So many young drivers coming up now, its great to see.

Well, it is only a rumour. I only half belive it, but I guess Ferrari should start to cast the net about a bit for an eventual successor to Schuey.

Alonso is clocking up the miles in an attempt to get his super licence according to f1racing.net

He finished second only to Jenson Button in todays test at Barcelona, just 2 tenths behind Jenson and only about half a second from last years pole time.

that's true, they have 2 years to really get a successor to MS if they want to stay ahead in the F1 game (Jacques maybe?) ...and to think Rubens, in autosports, actually thought that "MS is the present, he (rubens) is Ferrari's future"...If he continues to drive like this year, i think he'd end up 2nd driver...
