F3000 Sportscar
I read in a older magazine that around 1993 when the FIA was still looking at having a worldsportscar championship that along with groupC and GT they were proposing a class of f3000 cars rebodied. Does anyone know anything about this proposal and what the cars would have been like?

I would think they would have looked like the Can Am II of 1977 on, which were predominatly F5000 cars rebodied.

in Japan they used to race singleseater-based sportscars, for sure they did it using F.2, don't remember if they made it with Formula 3000, could be possible...

The original Lola LMP car of the late 90s had a nose top very similar to the Lola F3000 car of the time

Have a look at some pictures of intersire cars form the early to mid 90's.
RacingSportsCars site has some. http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo_interserie.html Loads of old F1 CART and F3000 with faired in wheels. |

As far as I know that Interseries is still racing in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany and Austria.

You could easily see those cars evolving into something very similar to today's protoypes though!

Another case in point: Formula X with the "convertible" monoposto open wheeler/sports cars. Never caught on. |

Last time I looked there still are some nice little "proper" prototypes in Interserie - there were still Group C cars turning up until about 2000, and in more recent years there were occasionally a few SR2/P675s in there; there's quite a few cars of the CN/VdeV/Britsports/"LMP3" sort of level around now. But it does all look a bit "run what you brung" these days, with some chassis seeming to date back to the 80s!

lets pray LMES is here to stay .
looking at the grandstands at the ring reminded me of the last Group C race at the ring when i was almost alone as spectator....cannot understand. Today this is really entertaining racing ,with lots of drama and racing for hours and nobody bothers. |

The new Audi and Peugeot teams cannot come soon enough for the health of the LMES. Hopefully this will bring some of the big name sponsors back. With Sony maybe defecting to a McLaren 'B' team they are badly needed. |
