Zytek's 3rd driver for Istanbul..........
You wouldn’t believe who is unavailable to race this weekend – so we’ll await the TBA with great interest… - DSC.
So who will be the third driver for Zytek teaming up with Shimoda (hopefully) and Chilton this weekend.............it's bound to be someone with a lot of experience and who is pretty good..............any guesses? |

Well the quote you posted leads me to believe that one of Zytek's regular drivers is not available to race at Istanbul. But, I have not seen the article, so I'm only speculating.
The other thing that comes to mind is Zytek have not used a third driver in the other LMES events. So why would they start now? Do they need more funds? |

Does this have anything to do with Shimoda's large shunt in the recent A1 Grand Prix round in Sydney?
http://www.a1gp.com/news/index.php?f...Id=1&newsid=94 "It was on lap 26 that the car, travelling at high speed, went off the track and crashed into a wall in turn one. For a few heart-stopping moments while the rescue crews arrived at the scene the driver’s condition was unknown but it rapidly became clear the tub of the car had held up amazingly to the force of the accident. Shimoda was momentarily knocked unconscious but by the time he was extracted from the cockpit and taken to the medical centre he was conversing with the medical staff. A preliminary examination by Dr Paul Trafford, the A1 Grand Prix Medical Delegate, found no further injuries but the Japanese driver was transferred by helicopter to Westmead Hospital for a CT scan and further precautionary checks." http://www.a1gp.com/news/index.php?f...Id=1&newsid=95 "Hayanari Shimoda has been declared fit this morning following his high-speed accident in the A1 Grand Prix of Nations race held yesterday at the Eastern Creek Raceway." |

Probably they hire a 3rd driver so Shimoda has to do only a few laps and still is able to win the championship.

It's Jean-Denis Deletraz. See here: http://www.creationsport.co.uk/
The decision was taken before Shimoda had his big accident. |

Think you'll find that Deletraz is driving the Creation car, hense the Creation press release from the Creation website. Whereas the Zytek car is the factory car. Different team foxy.
As for them needing a third driver jhansen, you've already posted the article about the accident at Eastern Creek. Shimoda has been passed fit to FLY and is on his way back to the UK, he hasn't, as yet, been passed fit to RACE. Slight difference. |

Well, I did not make the A1GP tie in until after my first post. I did not even realize that Shimoda had made his A1GP debut. So that gives the posts some context. And I never mentioned that he was fit to race. I just posted a quote and a link to an article saying he was released from the hospital.

my post was in response to your first one, which asked the question, why would they need to start using a third driver at this point in the season?
I don't think its a case of using a third driver, its a case of maybe having to have a spare second driver there in case Shimoda is unable to race himself. Or help relieve the burden over the 1000kms. |

Graham could you clear up what DailySportsCar where getting at when they said, You wouldn’t believe who is unavailable to race this weekend .
It seems to imply that one of Shimoda/Chilton will not be driving. However clearly Shimoda is doing all he can to get there, maybe Chilton is not going?? Or is it saying that the 3rd Zytek driver is the person who is unavailable to drive for anyone else, as he is in the Zytek. Maybe it's that he is so amazing that we would never believe who it is.............and so we must wait for the official announcement...................bit confused |

Ooh that would be good. Kerr, Shimoda and Chilton.

Kerr and Wallace have both driven for Zytek in the past. Either choice would make sense.

Brabham, Magnussen?
I think they will want someone with a lot of experience if they are going to be trying to secure the championship. |

I Love 04S - Shimoda seemed to be struggling in the A1GP cars a bit. Certainly off the kind of pace we've come to expect. Any thoughts as to why?

Apparently he needs to drive for an hour to qualify for the championship points - I would suspect that that is the logical plan |

They will have to get someone in the car as they wont risk Chilton racing for longer than is nessasary.

Well , Chilton did wipe out the RfH Dome at Silverstone . I had my doubts about him , but since then he has become a quick and reliable driver .
As to the third driver , I would have thought of Andy Wallace as the perfect man . I cant fathom from previous posts if Wallace is available or not ? But im also thinking about Jamie Davies or possibily John Nielson . If Shimoda does race , he needs to race for only one hour to score points . So to be safe on him thats what Zytek may do . I would like to see him clinch that title though . He certainly deserves it . |
