how to hook on BFG's drag radial?

i'm building a mustang chassis (1991 GT or 1988 LX 5.0) to run in the NMRA (national mustang racers Ass.) 1/4 mile drag racing. The cars run mid to low 12's at around 115-116 mph. Question is what can be done to the tire or the suspension to get it to hook well with a high rpm launch.

to view my car.
Thanks
Jack

Only thing I know, other than using tire chemicals, is that the BFG d/r like a lot of heat in them. Smoke them until you think they are ready, then stay in it for a little longer.

my two options are 275-60-15's or 275-50-15's. To which I think I will run the 275-50-15's because of it actually putting down more "footprint" even though it has a somewhat shorter sidewall.

yea chemicals are an option. None of the listed rules say we can't use them. and yes with a really good burnout i hear they stick better. I'm guessing weight transfer is going to be critical.
thanks for your reply.

Get front dampers with low rebound and high compression damping. Rear dampers should have high rebound and low compression damping. Run softer springs in the rear. Run low pressures in rear tires. I've heard that the higher side wall height will help rear tires hook up. Move as much weight to the back as legally possible. Put the battery in the trunk if legal. I would also push the seat all the way back. Extend the steering column if neccessary. Get a stutter box if legal (2 stage rev limiter). Test, test test. Find the best engine rpm for launch. If you have no data acquisition and track time is limited get a cheap G-Tech meter. It's at least consistent.

There are many resources available for a Mustang racer in US as you probably know. Check Jeggs, Summit Racing, Ford Motorsport, Chasis Engineering/Moroso. Most of them have dampers etc.

not legal!

I'm a digger! I have researched this class for a long time. But I know with my limited resources I will need to pull out every trick I can possibly manage.....and then a couple more. Just to compete. This class is one class where "thinking" and "testing" mean everything.
thanks for the replys.....keep em coming!

Heres a question from a drag racer the UK, what are the best DOT approved Drag Radials, My tire size is resrticted to 225/50/15. The car launches well on Toyos, giving the best 60ft of 1.73, but im sure there is more to come wiht ha good tire. the car is a Rover/Buick 215 powered Mk2 Cortina, with a 5spd manual box. In full trim has run a 12.8,

the best DOT apporved drag radial that I know of is the Mickey Thompson Drag radial. But the class I run in doesnt allow it. Hopefully they build a radial in your size. Good luck and keep us posted
thanks

Another fairly inexpensive data acquisition system would be innovative motorsport wide band 02 sensor (LM-1) with lma-3 box. LMA-3 has five input channels including 2 accelerometer and MAP on-board. All 5 channels also have external inputs so that any five sensors can be used. Also, multiple lma-3, lc-1, etc can be connected in series to increase datalogging capability. You can also datalog up to 44 minuts of data.

If you run efi then see if it's legal to change stock or use alternate chips or to recalibrate. The following site has some hardware that may help in engine tuning.
