Toyota to leave Formula 1?
A reliable Dutch website is reporting that Toyota might leave Formula 1. Team manager John Howett has said Toyota disagrees with the FIA-policy about cost cutting measures. Howett fears that proposed regulations for the 2008 regulations will make an end to Formula 1's position as pinnacle of motorsport.

They can throw all the money in the world at this, I just don't think it is meant to be..Why they are there in the first place beats me to be honest!

Yeh I agree. It's a little sickening seeing the amount of money they throw around, but it's funnier seeing how little progress they make...
I may sound proper anti-Toyota, but I honestly don't really mind them. But if they're going to just sulk at how they can't throw their money around anymore, then be rid of them. There's another 12 guys who'd quite enjoy the chance to fill their shoes i'd imagine. Selby |

The story dont make sense. In a way stricter rules have already ensured todays engines are more basic than ever, without variable trumpets, fixed points of gravity, etc etc. And judging from ralfs pace at Imola it would be crazy to stop now that they seem to be having the pace. It was not far of that of Fisichella in the championship winning Renault.

But it was light years off Alonso, in the other championship winning Renault.
 How much of this moaning from Toyota is related to the fact they aren't doing well I wonder? Is this just a convenient smoke screen? |

In Japan it is widely regarded that Honda is a racing organisation that just happens to build cars,whereas Toyota is a car manufacturer that just happens to go racing.Says it all for me.

Hopefully they will at least make their decision in time for another team to take their place for 2008 - perhaps by buying their facilities. For all the money Toyota have thrown at the project, all the attempts they've made to get the ebst design ideas from other teams, and spend huge sums of money on staff from elsewhere, they have not shown any innovation or desire to succeeed in F1 - only to sell more cars through it. As their engine is generlaly the strongest component, supplying that to a team like Williams or Prodrive would probably be better for everybody - they are real racing people in it for the love.

its understandable by the toyota board why all the money is going and evrry season we get "next year toyota will win a race then the championship" and sadly i think they are further now then ever. Don't forget thy tested for a full year before they got on the f1 grid!!! they was busy banging in laps in japan and europe.
It does not look great as Honda seem to be up there with Mclaren,ferrari and renault fighting for consistant podiums, and toyota have to rely on others misfortunes and (yet) not outright pace. I think the B spec car will have to be on the pace or we could see toyota becoming very dissapointed with there F1 investment..... |
