Team Mexico

In the RECORD Mexican newspaper; David Martinez is trying to get together with US Racetronics to form a team in Champ Car for 2007. The team would be called 'Team Mexico'. AR1 is also saying Luis Diaz could be the 2nd driver. Also a F BMW and Atlantics program to co inside with the Champ Car one.

What is it with naming teams after countries? A few years ago we had American Spirit Team Johannson, now we have Team Australia, and soon we will have Team Mexico. It almost sounds like Champ Car is trying to become A1GP's older brother. I have no problem with it, but at least come up with something more creative.

It`s happening in the Nascar truck series with Team Australia and Marcus Ambrose

A-1GP was obviously inspired by Champ car. Look at the similarities that did not exist before, Mandretti.... Team Australia got the ball rolling.

I felt the same when HVM last year was basically team Eurosport. But hey I know it kind of sucks to have team countries but at the end of the day it's the actual team that matters.

Not sure I follow the connection there since as I'm sure you know Eurosport is a TV channel. But having sponsors being that prominent is nothing new and it's actually quite encouraging knowing there are sponsors out there willing to pay to get their name up in lights - even if there are representing a whole country.

Nationally-branded teams might be the only way to get a wide range of teams involved, but it's not an ideal situation. Although A1 appears to have avoided them so far, a bad crowd can be attracted by excessive nationalism in sport.

Sorry N I Tram but I will have to disagree as we already have excessive nationalism in the sport and that we have Nationally-branded teams will not change a thing in my mind. Now people will ask how I come to this conclusion. You just need to look at how many people here are saying we must have many American drivers and many American venues to the point of avoiding what is good outside of America..... This is my personnal opinion and is not aimed at hurting anyone. If the nationality of drivers, teams owners and so on was not important they would not be included in everyone's Bio. All I see in Nationally-branded teams is an opportunity to have sponsors maybe more inclined to support a specific team because of the identity it takes. Again I may be wrong but I think the negative impacts are minimal.
