Smokey 6 litre should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Button's traction control

Unfortunately JB has a fault front wheel speed sensor which meant that the traction control would allow him to use full throttle utill the car was in a straight line.

This shows how much these driver rely on electronics, why didn't he attempt the lap without TC?

Honda would've known as soon as he left the pits if the TC was working or not and as JB uses llittle (romoured to be the lowest amount on the grid) could he have not turned it off and put in a decent lap time without?

Bring on 2008 without traction control.

They said on the commentary though, the cars are designed to be driven with it turned on, and I bet the sort of laps he could have achieved with it off were slower than what he achived anyway.

I think he got through the first phase with it turned off btw.

I think he did the lap in the first session without traction control, but it jammed on during the second session.

I don't like such extreme driver aids, but I appreciate that until control ECUs are brought in, it will be virtually impossible to police, which is why we have another year of it. Maybe Jenson will benefit when it goes again?

Hopefully one day, the FIA will rid these cars of TC, i remember watching a video of Montoya in 2003 around Imola, having to be very careful on the kerbs which were slippery, as he had no TC. It would be great to drivers having full control again.

deejay has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Don't think you will get an accurate comparison out of that. The car was setup and driven all weekend with traction control. You can't just turn it off and expect a driver to go out there and get the optimum non TC lap out of the car.

One of the reasons Barrichello gave a month or two back for not being as quick as Button was because Honda's TC was not as good as Ferrari's...

TC was reintroduced at the Spanish GP in 2001, so why was Montoya not running TC? Was it a problem with the car? (I can find no reference to this in contempory reports). It would be interesting to see.

I was really impressed with Button's efforts yesterday. He seems to find that little extra when he's fighting from lower in the grid.

I'm glad I have him in my dream team - a nice lot of positions gained there!

good point, i hadn't thought of that. i assume you'd probly run a little more rear wing without TC and the engine map would be designed to provide less voilent acceleration.
Bring on '08.

Well, traction control may be banned from 2008, but the electronic differential will probably stay legal. I'm not sure on this with the electronic throttle.

Besides, tyre blankets, semi-automatic gearboxes, power braking and steering are very likely to stay.
