For me it was Nigel Mansell with his gutsy drives and great overtaking moves, been hooked on F1 ever since !!!!!

For me, it wasn't a driver (contrary to what some people believe, I didn't get hooked on F1 because of Ralf Schumacher), but it was the influence of my family (motorsport is in my blood) that got me watching. I was a Damon Hill fan straight away though.

For me it was me Dad, dragging me around circuits since the age zero. First memory recalls are cars going very fast, crazy angles and the SOUNDS V8, V12, H16's.

Muddy campsites, crappy loo's, bad food & early mornings. Nothing changes. We were talking 1960's here by the way

Damon_Racer, guessing you're a Mr Hill fan as well . Nige however was the man that got me hooked. My first memory of watching a GP live was Mexico 1990 when he took Bergerround the outside on the Pareltada. What a driver!!

For me it was to things, my best friend(at the time) was a huge F1 fan and he had purchased this computer game, GP2 that got me totally hooked. We spent hours playing it.

Why would we think that?

Nigel got me interested too.

I'd played the original Grand Prix on Tourist's Amiga a few times, and then he had the qualifying for Imola '96 on when I was at his house. From then on the escapades of Ukyo and Mika in their Tyrrells had me hooked - the Minardi 'thing' happened in '97...

Mario Andretti. I have been watching him race since Nazareth was a dirt track, and just followed him up the ladder. Seeing him drive the 1979 John Player Special Lotus has ruined me for all other automobiles. After him it was Prost. Never felt the same about F1 after Prost retired, though.

It was the battle between Jones and Piquet for the 1980 championship that first exposed me to F1.
Hard men doing the hard yards and plenty of biffo.
No such thing as 'PC' in those days!
But really it was Murray's infectious enthusiasm for F1 that really hooked me.
To a spotty teenager in the early 80's, Murray brought this whole F1 world to life.

TeddyG should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I have always been in love with fast cars, Lambourgini being my favorite, which in turn got me interested in motorsports. I was watching a lot of NASCAR on T.V. in Bermuda (mostly because that's all we get as far as car racing goes) and then my brother went to university in Canada where one of his friends got him into F1. One summer I came up to Montreal to visit him and we went to the Canadian GP. It was awesome and I was hooked on F1 and can hardly stand to watch NASCAR at all anymore. Damn boring ovals!! So now I am in University here in Canada and can finally watch every F1 race on TSN, although I have recently found out that Bermuda has just got speedvision on cable. After all those years of watching live race reports over the internet, they finally get F1 the year that I leave!!

Being half-Canadian JV has always been the one to watch for me but I can honestly say that he would be my favorite driver even if he wasn't. He always pushes hard and goes for the gutsy pass attempt, so what if he doesn't always pull it off, he makes for exciting racing and is always fun to watch. Just give him a decent car and he'll be back!

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed.

I started following F1 because they used to replay the races at night when nothing else was on. I started following Indycars when JV started, and I followed F1 at the same time.

For me it was the sounds - unbelievable

We were driving past a speed way event at Avalon Raceway and I could here the speedway cars. From that point on I was searching for louder cars.

Getting old now, for the first time ever I had to buy earplugs at the Melbourne GP this year

When I was a kid I was "dragged round" club racing with my sister and her husband (motor journalist). For me, seeing James Hunt open the local car showroom that gave me an interest & a name to follow - great driver (-:

For me it was Jackie Stewart during his scond WDC season 1971. His mastery was phemonenal. He remains the consumate professional.

In my childhood years it was Jim Clark, I couldn't believe anyone could be that quick. His driving also taught me that F1 was a sport where excellence IS clearly rewarded. In spite of all the ups and downs and turmoil, I believe it still is the top of the tree.

I stopped watching F1 after the retirement of Jackie Stewart. His comments about F1 being a bit too dangerous (and all the deaths in those years) turned me off and I actually missed the Prost-Senna wars.

Then one morning in '94 I happened by chance to turn the TV on during an F1 race and saw a German kid driving his heart out in a blue Bennetton. I got the same feeling I used to have watching Clark or Jackie Stewart. Something along the lines that they were in a superior class by themselves and that I was truly lucky to be watching them perform at that level. And then I got hooked again as a Schumi Fan.

As a kid I started watching the races on CBC late night (those in T.O. will know what I'm talking about) and I've been hooked ever since. Don't know why I started watching but I'm glad I did. Then having the pleasure of watching Senna and Prost - OH YEAH!

The best racer ever: Gilles Villeneuve, probably when I saw him driving a three wheeled Ferrari or a unspoilerd Ferrari - it was the kind of behaviour of someone who was complete crazy, but in a very nice way of being crazy...

Funny enough I've just referred to that in the Best/Worst overtaking moves.

As to what got me hooked on motorsport. My dad bought me a Scalextric when I was five. The rest as they say is history.
