Sorry, i can't be of any help, but for some reason, my internet seems to disconnect, and reconnect at midnight. I'm on a netgear wireless router, very odd.

find out the contention on your line from your ISP. Basically the lower it is the better. It means the number of simultaneous connections the ISP allows on a single route to its servers. If its around 50 then its more likely that during high demand, the connections could be more volatile. Its the most obvious reason why during those times you have problems connecting all your 'net services.
I think mines around 20 and its never an issue during peak times... |

Sounds like contention at your ISP.
You're not on Tiscali are you? Edit: I just checked - you are.. Poor sod. You and me both. Consult the Tiscali forums. Try this link: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=119184 Basically your an IPStream user on Tiscali, which means in peak hours, absolutely no online game will work for you, nor will many online chat programs. Either ask them to migrate you to Datastream, or get a MAC number, and move to a decent ISP (no, I don't have any suggestions!) Last edited by Chris Y; 11 Jan 2007 at 23:25. |

I don't believe it costs anything, if the posts on Tiscali's forum are anything to go by. I guess they're a little embarrassed by the situation, and are trying to make good on the service provided. I guess it doesn't cost them much for the upgrade.
Meanwhile, you must be a 'net virgin these days if you don't know what a MAC is! Put simply, when you migrate from one broadband ISP to another, you get given a MAC (Migration Authorisation Code), and the new ISP can use this to transfer your connection quickly, with no interruption in service. Many Tiscali users are intimately familar with their MAC |
