racingdad has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Testing today

Hamilton quicker than Raikkonen - and looking at the times and the number of laps, this is probably a sign of genuine pace

After reading the comments made by de la Rosa over the past few days this has made me so happy. The mark of true talent.

Too early to say really, but Hamilton seems to be on the pace. Best wait until Melbourne though

Too early to really read too much into the times at the moment I would think but from what I've read Hamilton does appear to be showing some very good pace. Yes its only testing and the teams are working to their own indavidual programmes but you can always get a good indication of how well a team/driver is performing by looking at their pre season test form I think.

Erm...1.11.119. Take off 2 seconds for the 06 spec Bridgestones, allow say 2-3ths for the new kerb...lap record there last winter was left at 1.08.543. I make that about 15-20 kilos in his tank...if so, he's off the pace by 2-3.7ths! Doubt Ferrari are bothering doing low fuel runs just yet.

I believe no accurate judgment can be said yet! Testing times might show how strong the team can be but it cannot be compared with others. LH is doing a good job so far despite his crash which always has been part of the game; we better wait for the first race and see.

As has been mentioned this is just testing so we can't read too much into it, nor do I think it is possible glean any meaningful information regarding performance relative to 2006. In this case I believe the margin for error is too big. What if the new Bridgestones reduce laptimes by 2.4-2.5 seconds and the new kerbing 4-5ths, not to mention differences in track conditions e.g temperature?

I hate to harp on, but...

once again Lewis is at the sharp end. I know its only testing and I know that there are any number of strategies being deployed, but we all know that teams will be seeking a psychological advantage in the test environment so will have a go with low fuel quali set ups.

Obi, I would have thought it highly unlikely the new Bridgestone would reduce lap times. They are more likely to increase lap times as the tyre war is now over.

Stephen, I think Obi was making the point that we just don't know, which is about all we do know!

What is 2-3.7ths anyway? Or 4-5ths?

And what is your point exactly?

He could be right, BMW are strongly tipped to be a dark horse, so this is hardly a wild statement.

He's also completed a decent number of laps,so reliability is looking up as well.

Technically, the STR's should perform similarly, although not today. They'll be some fireworks if they do!
