MG Racer should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Tickets - Have i missed something?

Something that has always been bugging me.

I pay to enter a race as the driver and I get, usually, 5 entry tickets and a couple of vehicle passes.

Now what I don't get is that I have paid to enter the race as the driver and without me the car does not go anywhere. So why is it that I have to use one of the 5 tickets for myself as the driver? Surely my race licence should be enough in conjunction with the entry list and someone else can have "my" ticket.

Is it me thats find this mad or should I find something else to worry about?

I have often wondered the same thing. So why not just let the driver in on his licence and the entry list and issue no spare tickets, then the entry fee could be cut by the price of 4 tickets. This could save us £50 to £75 per race for ordinary club meets.

Of course, that would never happen. It is crazy that the driver needs to use up one of the tickets and unrealistic to put a value on the other tickets because, mostly, they only cover crews and maybe 1 guest, if that.

The thing is the clubs and circuits seem to be on a one way track to forcing costs UP, with no regard for the ultimate consequences.

This year, as last year, the BARC with the entry form pack included the inane statement along the lines of "Every year we expect Entry Fees to rise and this year will be no exception" then continue to detail increases of about 5% or more.

Well, BARC, I for one DON'T expect entry fees to rise every year, although it is sadly predictable. Most businesses make efforts to hold prices over several years if not reduce them and it is a sad reflection on the monopolistic situation in British racing that the clubs take this attitude.

It might not be so bad if some effort was made to justify the increases rather than issue such condescending and tactless statements.

So you suggest that everyone queues behind every driver while their licence is dragged out of the boot and compared to an entry list which may well not be exactly up to date?

You must be joking.

By all means argue that you should get another ticket above your current numbers, but please do try not to invent daft organisational procedures.

Regards

Jim

A number of very valids point made.

Flacemob - Exactly the other thought that I had. Dont give us any tickets and we can buy exactly what we need subject to the overall race entry being lower. Somehow I expect that the "free" tickets do not form a big part of the cost of entry anyway.

DSM - I am a purchasing manager and I don't expect any prices to rise year on year. You just have to get creative in delivering the same for less or maintain existing rates.

I did rather skip over that letter in my BARC entry pack as i pretty much knew what it was going to say blah blah blah increase.

JimW - Couldn't agree more that we dont want to be holding people up at the gate. However, New licences which are the size of a credit card and what's the difference between reaching for the tickets and a credit card style licence?

You still have to prove that your competiting at that meeting - so, that means comparing with an entry list. Which takes time.

Alternatively, you could be given this proof that you're competing with some form of pass included with your final instructions. Something like a ticket...

What a great idea give us a ticket - I knew i should really be worrying about something else other than this.

The fact is i was being greedy and wanted to get an extra ticket for friends etc rather than use one for myself.

I am going to shut up now and go back to my padded cell.
