wait this has been mentioned in the touring car section. We thought it was going to Thailand to the SuperGT Series there. But my first guess was correct. So this will be replacing all the MRS's that are still in the series correct?

Yup, this car, developed by team apr will replace the ageing MR-S in the SuperGT series in Japan.
Chassis based on Corolla Axio prod. bodyshell, albeit with extensive mods & change to mid engine layout. Thailand? Last edited by jaybond; 14 Jan 2009 at 06:07. |

Will they continue to run the mid-engine Lexus IS as well?

It's funny that GT300 now seems to be more of the original thinking playground than GT500.

while it is true that it's rather impure as GT series go, i think that the attitude of "anything on 4 wheels within the class limits" is a pretty pragmatic one in these economic times, and it does make for a heck of a lot of variety in a fairly affordable manner. which is what we often complain we never see.
the gt500 class though, is increasingly becoming a spec class by virtue of the massive spending by nissan, honda, and toyota on their programs (they've priced out any privateer entrants with different cars); and the new rules requiring 3.4 litre v8s (the same motors as formula nippon) have just reinforced that... |

Yeah, probably. But I think both classes are basically the same when it comes to freedom in modifying/building the cars. The only obvious difference is maybe on the horsepower/power-to-weight ratio.
Only criticisms from me is that the GT-R could have used a turbocharged engine rather than NA (at least you can relate to the road going cars), and the presence of seriously outdated cars like the Mazda RX-7 , Honda NSX & Porsche Boxster (not that the car's running pace is outdated, just appearance wise). |

Don't really like the car.
Do the the Lexus GT300 and this Toyota share the same chassis? |

GT500 has less freedom so the manufactorers dont spend themselves out of the series.GT300 was created to be more open but there are radical rules changes coming to alter the whole series. Oh and Thailand was a reference to a series there were they have raced tube framed Corollas from the 8th and 9th gerneration. Someone posted a link that claimed thats were they were going.

i should probably add that as odd-ball as this car is, i kind of like it. yes, it essentially is a prototype masquerading under corolla-esque bodywork, but it doesn't look that bad in and of itself, and will certainly be fun to see in motion. i like it more than the mid-engined lexus, which just looks kind of awkward to me...

Super GT is the Group 5 or rather IMSA GTX of today.
With cars like that you really don't need prototypes... IMO(of course) |

I guess this also means that SuperGT has really relaxed their rule about not allowing 4-door sedans, with exception for the Cusco Subaru.
