Motorsport is not illegal in Switzerland - they have hill climbs.
Motor racing is however. |

The problem is, it's all very well legalising circuit racing again - and I certainly would like this to happen. The Swiss F3 championship is a strange affair with no races in the country it gets it's name from, and just Hill Climbs!
However, would anyone actually take this revocation of the law and build a circuit, or promote a street race? Would there be enough interest to justify any race? There's 2 stages required to get motor racing back in Switzerland, but even if step 1 is passed it'll be a long time before step 2 happens too... |

The Swiss allow rallying and hillclimbing without a problem. They do not seem to be willing to change their stance on racing. But then again they have always been a bit silly, haven't they? No involvement in the war, nothing to do with the EU (not that this such a good thing). There is however a Swiss businessman / politician trying to get racing going again. I wish him a lot of luck.

Different country, different ways and one that has a live and let live attitude to the rest of the world. as for motor-racing. Well maybe they should allow it again, but they just get to go everywhere else to do it |

Why Rallying and Hillclimbing?
After the horrendous Le Mans shunt a lot of countries banned motor racing. The Swiss banned events where more than one car was on the same bit of tarmac! So Rallying and Hillclimbing with staggered starts were OK and Motor Racing with cars banging into one another was banned.
If they wanted to they could have sprints on road circuits but would they be able to find anywhere flat enough! |

Congrats Carrera! I thought I was the only one who thinks Goodwood isn't a real hillclimb!

Just to correct a few points.Swiss hill climbs ARE competitive events and counted for the European Mountain Championship. They also have Slaloms-not down mountains but on flat airfields.

Surely with Motorsport apparently making efforts at cleaning up it's environmental image...and we all know (collectively) the Swiss are known to be tree huggers. Perhaps low emmission one make series (say the new Polo or Fiat Grande Punto) and other seen-to-be-clean race series might be the way to persuade the Swiss government back into motorsport. |

No let them ban it, one of our competitors (Post Historic Tourers) commutes from Swizerland to compete with us in his beautiful CSL, their loss!
