Chinese team formed
I've just read on teletext that a chinese racing team has been formed with a view to entering Formula One.....soon!
It's called the 'FRD Grandtour Tyre Team' and aims to "link the Chinese racing community to World Motor sports". it would promote chinese drivers, which sounds quite worrying actually. Make of that what you will....... |

That is the usual pay-driver pedigree, so expect to see them at Minardi or jordan soon.

I will only beleive this will happen if the next press release says. "Chinese government funds development". However the government could force VW/AUDI to invest in the team as VW audi have vast manufactering plants and sell the majority of Vehicles in China. Could be interesting.

Does this leave the possibility of a VW F1 entry, 903cc?

Yoong's mom is English. His father is Malaysian hence the Asian sounding last name.

Ho-Pin Tung,
really dominating Formula BMW Asia. Has eight poles from eight races. He won the first 3 races of the season, in race 4 he retired with technical failure whilst leading, race 5 he had an electronic problem and had just taken the lead when the red flag came out so he was classified as 2nd. Race 6 to 8 were won by him again. Before the Formula BMW he did Formula Ford (2001-2002 Dutch & Benelux Championship) Finished 4th with 1 victory and 1 pole position, best rookie. At the Brand Hatch Formula Ford Festival he spun off when 4th in semi-finals. And he was the KNAF (Royal Netherlands Autosport Federation) Talent First Winner. |

Could be a VW entry if the government of China puts pressure on the Chinese offshoot to support the team. Car sales are incredibly political in China.

I'll believe this when I see it..
BTW isn't it easier to enter F1 since you don't have to put down the GBP 30 million entry bond or whatever now ?? |

Maybe you don't need GBP 30mil anymore, but you still gotta have a freaking CAR!!!! And a team. And facilities. OK, maybe there is a Chinese F1 team being formed, but I doubt we would see them next year, or even the year after... and to do that, they'd pretty much have to buy an old car from someone else (or buy Minardi or Minardi's Arrows...).
