V8s put brakes on Wanneroo???

I have just read an article stating that the V8s racing at Wanneroo will be axed after 2009. They are still pushing for a street circuit. A street cicuit would need investment from the state government. interesting comments from Wa's Sports mininster.

"The return for tourism and promotion of the state came nowhere near warranting the expenditure required"

The let Rally Australia go, whats next?

Wanneroo gets good crowds and has more character than the majority of the v8 field and they want to leave.

Good times

WA is booming. Why would the government need to spend $30 Million + to bring a few thousand extra tourists to the state. It's only our stupid (QLD) state government that does things like that.

You got that right Fellas.....

With the resources boom over in WA perhaps TC will have to pay to play over there....A smart polly will get re-elected without the help of a touring car event.

Sad, but true.

Thats sound interesting, they could use the Nullabor Plains as the main straight and put in 31-(32 pit bays) easily

still might have some trouble with sand blowing on the track

I cannot beleive that they want to get rid of Wanneroo. I think its fine that they have the Adelaide Street race & they have the QLD double header street race, but that should be it.

So what are they gonna do if the WA gov dont cough up the funds (which they wont do). Not go at all?

Oh, BTW, what ever happened to the new circuit in WA that was rumoured a few years ago?

Hoffy. If there's no cash, there's no race.

WA could miss out.

TC will use his old line to try to embarass the WA Government to come up with the money. Hopefully this Government will stand it's ground this time.

I also read that article in todays Sunday Telegraph..

Safety and substandard facilities at the track are the reasons for the decision. The WA Sporting Car club went on to say they will recitfy the issues but Wayne Cattach said the decision was final so after 2009 its off the calendar.

WA, no loss really, crap track, crap racing. If WA are not prepare to build better tracks or provide a street race, then lets not bother going there. I for one will not miss the series going there

I wonder how long it will be before they give Darwin and Tasmania the ultimatum.

What a weak argument! We all know this is 2001 again when The Artist tried the exact same line and the state government told him that hospitals, schools etc. were a better use for its money than helping make a few Queensland hustlers even richer. The government might be persuaded to put some money into Barbagello to fix up safety, pits etc. (a la Bathurst) but pouring money down the financial black hole that is a street circuit was not in its plans then and certainly wouldn't be post Rally Australia. The Artist tries this desperate ploy every time he needs to up his cash flow and lately he is being rejected.Given that he leaves WA,Oran Park is closing, there are no other countries wanting to emulate the spectacular "success" of China and Bahrain(which won't last much longer) and that Townsville is still a long way from reality(especially if you examine the financial detail of their most recent proposal) he might be struggling to have more than a 9 or 10 round championship which is in breach of his TV contract.WA is such an important state economically in Australia it would be stupid not to go there and the teams sponsors would agree.Call the clowns bluff WA.

There was a plan in the early 90s to make the series as East Coast only affair....perhaps the circle has come round to this again.

i would have thought a national series was the highest championship in the nation, as oppossed to being held in every state.

and besides its not a national series anyway. its the Australian Touring Car Championship

i did ask him. he said its called the australian touring car championship and the winner of the series is crowned the australian touring car champion, just as has happened in the passed

The major difference is you have to compete in alot more races to win it

Hey guys cut Aussie Bernie some slack and leave Tasmania out of this. AB convinced the Tasmanian Govt to pour a bucket load of cash into a race track that can be used by everyone, not just the chosen few.

And they seem to get double the crowd numbers through the gate in Tassie.
