Hehehe Mike.... Phillip Island is in Victoria, not South Australia.
Nothing much on the organiser's (VHRR - Victorian Historic Racing Register) website as yet, other than entries have opened. Anyone looking to enter, look at Supp. Regs, wanting garages, camping site info, fuel and timer info all linked from this page following https://vhrr.com/wp/phillip-island/ |

Enjoy your time downunder... I have always admired the B8...what was the gestation period between the two and why the designation change? |

Time to give this thread a bit of a bump, although no entry lists up yet.... should be up in a couple of weeks.
In the meantime a bit of a teaser of whats on show from the VHRR. Andy (Newall) gets a mention about his B6. Looking forward to seeing that. Quote:

Is it just me or has this event lost a bit of its OOMPH in recent years? We used to have heaps of nice cars coming from around the world (remember the International Sports Car Challenge) but now we are excited by 3 cars? I know we have a lot of great race cars in Australia but this event seems to be relying more on Australia's preoccupation with Touring car racing than it did in the past. maybe this gets people through the gates but is this the way the event should be going?

The entry is still promised at well over 500 cars (I have heard 540 mentioned) which is no less than recent years. Of course these anniversaries also feature Touring Cars from time to time, ( I think last year celebrated the 60th anniversary of the first Australian Touring Car Championship) so that would see some focus there. Also last year was a world anniversary for Formula Ford also featured. It is still a superb meeting on a great track, and there are always a superb variety of local and overseas cars, publicised or not. |

Phillip Island Classic
Just in case anyone is interested...but probably not....
I have just finished restoring this Group A BMW 635 CSi. It is the Charlie O'Brien Bumpa T Bumpa 1985 Bathurst 1000 car that he bought from Frank Sytner in 1985. It was the C.C Motorsport/ BMW UK then Sytner car. It is in Bathurst 1986 colour scheme and specs of 1986. Charlie O'Brien is driving it at Phillip Island. |

I know it will still be a great event with some great racing by some great cars but when I look at what is happening at some overseas Historic events one wonders if PI could just be a bit better.

You’ve got to remember Australia is a very small country in Historic racing terms, there just aren’t enough open wheelers and sports racing cars (despite the number of unused cars in sheds) to have the big fields we see overseas. Secondly touring car racing has always been the mainstay of spectator interest here, and the economics of running this event simply mean you need large grids and lots of punters. I'll be heading down there, just paid my share of the house rental. Been an annual event for me for quite a few years and I'm looking forward to another dose!

Are VE Holden Commodores really Historic? As far as I know you cannot race a FF built later than 1989 or carbon tub Formula Holdens such as Reynard 90D but you can race a 2007 Holden Commodore at the PI Historic meeting.

At some point they will become historic, and that is ok. But lets not have them for a while yet. |

Just checked the vhrr website for the entry list. Not available yet but says available early March, so just a few days before the meeting opens next Friday. Ill post a link as soon as it is available.
In the meantime they have published an updated press release. Noticed Andy Newall is not mentioned in the UK drivers attending. Hope his plans to be there are still intact and it is an oversight in the press release. He has become a regular in these parts for this meeting. Looking forward to seeing the Chevron too. Anyway I will be there and look forward to catching up with any tenthers attending (dr bob and john that I know of) The press release I mentioned Quote:
