Honda Indy 225 - some random thoughts
Here are some of my random thoughts from the Honda Indy 225.
Tomas Scheckter loses out again through no fault of his own. Such a shame, he could be higher in the championship if it wasn't for all his bad luck. The man of the race was, with no question, Sam Hornish jr. Even with a underpowered Chevy engine, he was blowing everyone away. Pikes Peak is a short track, but horsepower is horsepower and he had a lot less then the Toyota's and Honda's but was still flying past them. He is one of, if not the best, driver in Indycar racing at the moment. If he didn't run out of fuel, who know where he could have finished... Dario Franchitti did an excellent job. First race back after his injury, and he gets his best ever IRL Indycar Series finish of fourth place. Although, he did just miss out on third place. Still, I hope he can net some more top five finishes as the season goes on. Finnaly, congrats to Scott Dixion for taking his second win this year and becomong the first driver to win two races this season. The championship is still wide open, I'm looking forward to the season ahead. Last edited by Down F0rce; 16 Jun 2003 at 14:59. |

Gotta agree with everything you've said. Sam was the star, yet again, and it's frustrating to see him turn in results that aren't up to his ability level.
Ganassi haven't had the kind of results they'd expect for much of the season, but this win goes with round 1 to move Scott up the table. Now he needs to find some consistancy, and Thomas some luck (and make fewer mistakes, sometimes it's his own fault) |

According to post-race coverage in the Indy Star, Panther Racing said that they made up for the lack of horsepower by putting a lot of downforce on the car so that Sam could drive it flat on the floor and run the higher line that he ran....other teams had to lift a little when cornering....
That approach will work on a one-mile oval with the banking like Pike's Peak has, but anything with substantial straightaways or any distance to it will make that approach a non-option... BTW....it is confirmed that Panther Racing will test the Cosworth powere either Wednesday or Thursday of this week at an undisclosed track.... |

No susprise about Sam, not only is he the best in IRL, but Panther racing is also notorious for having the best track engineers.
