Apparently from 2012 to 2018, half the races will be aired live on the BBC as now and the other half on Sky.
Sky of course would involve paying more but the BBC will have highlights of the races they do not show live. Better than all Sky I suppose, but still pooh. Is this the end of F1? Murdoch AND Bernie.... P |

Gutted. The inevitable return of advert breaks is the killer for me.

Screwed.
That kills F1 in this house.. I stopped "fanatical" viewing a few years back - but the remaining viewer in this house sees no point in seeing half a season live... and Sky sports is an expense we just cant cover, and I guess many fans will be in that position. Just another example of the lack of realism at the top of F1.
To quote the reaction here... "no point in watching half a season live". Im hoping the audience figures in the UK take a dive - hot that I expect Bernie to care. What happens to Brundle now? |

A shoddy little compromise.
Dealing with the Devil and a sell out for Licence fee payers. This will reduce overall audience significantly, and destroy the free to air tradition over the long term. Dealing with Murdoch in the current circumstances? BBC should be ashamed of themselves. |

Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, said: "We are absolutely delighted that F1 will remain on the BBC.
"The sport has never been more popular with TV audiences at a 10-year high and the BBC has always stated its commitment to the big national sporting moments. We are so committed to those record audiences we're betraying them |

F1 to Sky.
Well Bernie the Godfarther is at it again. Money is the root of all evil and he needs more. As for the BBC they may not have enough in the pot to pay for F1 but they they have enough to pay waste a space Clarkson £2m a year, (Which would you sooner watch) and whats the real story behind no more Turkish GPs after a poor country spends all that money on a GP circuirt ? what will happen to India he doesn't get what he wants from that. Bernie please retire and give us a break.

how many people will they lose who just switch on to watch the first few laps, i wont be paying, even though im a devoted fan, this will mean that when the tv rights cease after 2018? it will definately go to itv and will probably stay there for a long time after. the bbc took on the deal till 2018 not give it up after 3 years, and as someone i was talking to said 10 mil viewers what show gets that? they have made a gravely wrong decision, i hope part of their market research if theyve not satisfied themselves before the deal they view this thread... then theyll get the real picture of what real people think

Did anyone expect any thing else? I did not, nail the renegade, his business and reputation to the mast, and he will kick back, moderation will prevent most of us from writing what we really want to say. Perhaps the best we can expect are a few good ''Brundleisioms''

Any suggestion that he is not in control was quashed yesterday when James Murdoch, still being investigated for corruption and bribery by the Met, FBI and Parliament was unanimously re-appointed chairman. Money talks not morality so no surprise there then. |

2011 is my last f1 season then, wouldn't have anything to do with Murdoch even before the NOTW scandal. Bye Bernie you have lost a long time devoted fan but I don't think you really care about little people like me.

I'll go back to early in the thread and quote this:
Quote:
Looks like 2011 will be F1's high water mark in the UK- best viewing figures ever, exceptional coverage and great racing. Like others I'll probably watch some of the stuff that remains on the BBC but it'll go from "must watch" to "if I remember it's on". Sad day |

I'm ****ing livid.
But, I will lay money on this - fast-forward 12 months and we'll all still be watching, and I'm sure both Bernie and Sky know that... But, this is disgusting news. Bernie has made a massive faux-pas, bizarre how quiet the teams are being about this - or so it would seem as of today - again, fast-forward 12/24 months and you never know it could be an inspired move, somehow... |
