Cooper T53
Lets Start with listing the Cooper Chassis records, as presented by Doug Nye in his annex.
What follows next are the shots of chassis currently in action and the number under which they appear. Most of the times I got a shot of the chassis plate, which as has been pointed out before is not a guarantee that that car is indeed the one it suggesting to be. That's to be found out. Here's the list to start with. I did not add the FPF engine numbers, could always be done later if required. It should also be noted that although the Cooper records switch from using F2 to FII, this is hardly shown on the chassis plate, so I stuck with the numbers that I saw. Cooper T53 (MkVI) Cooper’s Chassis records (Source Doug Nye) FII/5/60 Works Car 1 FPF (T53 Lowline?) FII/8/60 Works Car 2 FPF (T 53 Lowline?) FII/12/60 Works Car 3 FPF (T53 Lowline?) Before somebody comes up with it, the very first pic is not F2/3/59. It clearly is a lowline, that was shown during the pre-historics in 2008, but not at the Historics itself.

Pieter - the three you have queried are indeed T53s

I think it is also of some interest to see which chassis continued in the Formula Libre with 2.5 litres, and which were re-engined (if any) for the 1,5 litre F1 class. Last edited by John Turner; 25 Feb 2009 at 08:53. |

I believe FII/17/60 was also a lowline.

By the way, have you seen the T53 page I did some years ago?
http://www.oldracingcars.com/Projects/Cooper-T53.htm It's many years since I did any serious work on that page. |

https://www.shannons.com.au/auctions...1CYYJ8F0HFDDR/ The Cooper wears the chassis plate ‘F11/8/60’ today – one of the numbers allocated by Cooper for the works ‘lowline’ cars raced by Brabham and his Kiwi team-mate Bruce McLaren for the duration of the 1960 season – the highly respected website Oldracingcars.com run by Allen Brown points out that no history for either of these cars can be traced beyond 1960. Despite the best efforts of historians like Doug Nye and John Blanden, Cooper provenance is a veritable minefield and sorting out the individual racing histories of the works cars has proved extremely difficult due to the lack of record keeping, switching of ID plates and the rigours of racing. Presented in the Cooper works livery made famous by Brabham in winning the Formula One World Driver’s Championship in both 1959 and 1960, the ‘lowline’ has been on display at the Len Lukey Museum at Phillip Island in recent years and will need some recommissioning before it can be safely raced again. The Climax engine has been restamped with a 2.5-litre number FPF430-1142 (the capacity has not been verified), while the gearbox is a period-correct Cooper-Knight C5S unit. Documentation supplied with the car includes a Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) Certificate of Description dated 2015 along with a signed letter from Sir Jack Brabham O.B.E. regarding the importation and sale of the car dated March 13, 2002. |

Cooper MkV1 (Lowline)
Following the split from the T51 thread, we have the 4 (?) Lowline works Coopers that ran during the 1960 season. The indication "T53" is generally used, but creates confusion, in particular because of the 1961 1.5 liter cars, that are also generally being referred to as T53.
We have F2-5-60 (Workscar number one) F2-8-60 (Workscar number two) F2-12-60 (Workscar number three) and possibly F2-17-60 (Sold to Brabham without engine). I have seen two cars as #5 and #8 respectively, and there is a 2.5 1960 car owned by Italian Georgio Marchi, and driven by Enrico Spaggiari during the 2008 Monaco Historic GP and the Revival meeting. I have no number for that one. Last edited by John Turner; 26 Feb 2009 at 08:32. |

The T53, actually owned by Giorgio Marchi and which I am the proud driver, has the chassis plate F2-5-60 (ex-Mclaren 1960 F1 car and ex-Brabham Intercontinental 1961 car) and it has the 2.5 FPF engine. Is supposed to be another "works" T53 carring the #5? Kind regards. Enrico |

Post on the other T53 going to auction downunder:
• 1960 Cooper Climax T53 lowline • Uncertain chassis origin • Potential to achieve FIA HTC papers https://www.shannons.com.au/auctions...65DSP0DC95KPP/ An accompaniment to the green-and-white 1960 Cooper Climax T53 lowline racer also being auctioned, this orange-and-white car has a chassis of unknown origin and its history is unclear. It’s potentially a parts car for the authenticated ‘green’ car or with some research, could achieve FIA historic racing papers. Being sold from the estate of the owner, and will be offered for sale unregistered and with no reserve. |

The description of the green car is a stretch in my opinion. There is no evidence that it was one of the works cars, and actually quite a bit of evidence to suggest that it cannot be a works car, as it was still in South Africa as the two works cars were arriving in New Zealand from the US. And that's before we get into the thorny issue of how the sports car that was built from it can exist at the same time as the Cooper.
I would see it as a resurrection of an ex-Brabham Cooper T53, but to try to assign a chassis number to it is overambitious. I have said "maybe" F2-17-60 on my page. http://www.oldracingcars.com/cooper/t53/ |

What about the Owen car (The no-number car) how it is this very documented chassis fitting in to the Lowline history ?
There are a lot of thought about the origin, there are no doubt about it being a genuine Cooper T53, but what chassis could be rightfully be allocated to this car ? |
